Job Description
Department of Microbial Pathogenesis
Research Assistant Professor
The Department of Microbial Pathogenesis at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) is recruiting a non-tenure track investigator at the Research Assistant Professor (RAP) level. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in the role(s) of lipids in the early innate immune response in multiple mammalian and arthropod infection models. The project is focused on developing new therapeutic targets for pulmonary infections including bacterial, fungal, and viral models. Advanced expertise in mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) to spatially resolve the host-pathogen interface to develop systems-level understanding of the interaction for therapeutic target development is a strict requirement. This RAP will participate in exciting and diverse aspects of the project: 1) infection modeling and validation; 2) molecular mapping by MSI; 3) using advanced analytical methods including machine learning and artificial intelligence to extract regulated system data to represent the models. Willingness to work with rodent models is a requirement. This position will be a critical member of a dynamic team working in close collaboration with researchers in the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Department of Microbiology & Immunology and Institute for Genome Sciences and must have good oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry (or closely related field) with at least 7 years of post-graduate research experience. The ideal candidate will have a background (PhD with at least 3 or more years of experience) in mass spectrometry imaging, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or closely related areas. Excellent verbal and written communication is mandatory. Experience working independently in a BSL3 environment is mandatory.
Hiring range: $85,000-$111,000 per year (depending on rank and commensurate with education and experience).
The position will be available until filled.
