Chief Purpose of this position:
The Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center welcomes applications for several tenure-eligible faculty positions. We are seeking faculty members who are conducting impactful studies with research interests in the cancer field. Preference will be given to those focusing on translational oncology, immuno-oncology & drug discovery including medicinal chemistry and structural biology. The faculty will also support the department with teaching responsibilities at the graduate level and mentoring students and/or trainees as appropriate.

Workingwith all cancer types, Massey conducts basic science, translational, clinicaland prevention and control cancer research, provides state-of-the-arttreatments, and promotes cancer education and training. Since 1974, Massey hasserved as an internationally recognized center of excellence. It offers one ofthe largest selections of cancer clinical trials in Virginia and serves patientsat multiple sites throughout the state.
The mission of the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is to reducethe state cancer burden for all Virginians by addressing the confluence betweenbiological, social, and policy drivers through high-impact, cutting-edgeresearch; person-centered care across the continuum, from prevention throughsurvivorship; community integration; and training the next generation ofcommunity-centric researchers and healthcare professionals.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching
The facultymember shares a deep commitment to effective instruction, creation ofinnovative courses and mentoring of students in research, outreach andprofessional development. They demonstrate leadership in developing techniquesdesigned to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectualinterests, especially in the context of interdisciplinary research intereststhat complement the program. The faculty member will contribute to the teachingmission and will be engaged in training of students and faculty and willdeliver lectures, contribute to course development and implementation in the identifieddepartment. In addition, the faculty member will mentor capstone projects ofmaster-level students and supervise dissertation research.
Research
Contribute to VCU's national reputationthrough research and scholarship (extramural funding, high quality publications,citations, and national recognition through honorific awards and committeeleadership) and maintain active involvement in appropriate national orinternational organizations and bodies. Publish in peer-reviewed journals and submit grant applications forextramural funding in the field of translational oncology, immuno-oncology,and/or drug discovery including medicinal chemistry and structural biology. Itis expected that the faculty member will establishand maintain a vigorous, extramurally funded research laboratory.
The faculty member is expected todirect the research lab and comply with all regulatory requirements. They supervise laboratory personnel, writeand submit multiple grant applications during the course of the academic year;write and publish multiple manuscripts during the course of an academicyear. They serve as a PI onpeer-reviewed grants and are responsible for complying with all institution andsponsors terms and conditions for grant funding.
The member will participate in Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center Core Grant application preparation as needed, this includesproviding updates on active research, grants and publications. They participate and engage with othermembers of the Massey Cancer Center in cancer center activities and incollaborative research projects.
Service
Faculty memberswill serve on Departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary,as well as in a professional capacity in their field (e.g., reviewer,conference organizer, etc.)

Required Qualifications:
- PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree basic, translational, or clinical sciences
- Extensive cancer relevant research experience
- Proven extramural funding track record
- Extensive publication experience
- Proven trainee and faculty mentorship skills
- Track record working in multi-disciplinary fields
- Experience in, and coordination of, collaborative grants and managing trans-disciplinary research
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a matrix environment within academic medicine
- Proven success in collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams
