Position: Research Metallurgist

Location: Mountain Pass, CA

Responsibilities: Plan, conduct, and assist with metallurgical studies, process, and procedure development at the milling and flotation facility; Monitor and direct changes to key operating parameters of all production circuits; Report metallurgical or process issues and make recommendations on how to resolve issues; Conduct sampling campaigns to ensure representative samples are available for research programs; Create and maintain operation and process documentation such as log sheets and SOPs; Maintain PFDs, P&IDs, process control procedures, and design basis procedures; track raw material usage and conversion; Create and maintain material reports in SAP; Identify and scope out small and medium capital project needs and participate on large capital project teams; Startup and commission new equipment and processes; Perform laboratory test work to investigate, troubleshoot, and improve operations; Work with QA and customer service to address any product quality or customer complaints; Provide technical training on new technology to operators; Follow all company, industry and regulatory procedures and laws to ensure safe work by oneself and the company; and Execute Management of Change (MOC) paperwork, and document changes.

Educ./experience: Doctor of Philosophy or foreign education equivalent in Mining Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field. Must have at least one (1) year of experience working at a natural resource mine. Must have experience: (1) optimizing the calcination conditions for maximizing REE leachability from coal waste and (2) conducting a comprehensive analysis of plant metallurgical data using JMP software employing both statistical and analytical thinking methods to identify processing challenges and propose solutions.
Salary range: $121,867/year to $140,000/year
