The Department of Pharmaceutics, part of the UW School of Pharmacy, currently has an outstanding opportunity for and individual to join and lead projects within our Targeted Long- acting Combination Anti-Retroviral Therapy (TLC-ART) Program.

FIELD OF RESEARCH:

This Research Scientist-2 (Research Scientist/Engineer 2 (NE S UAW RSE)) will perform laboratory research work in the areas of Pharmaceutics, Bioanalytical/analytical Chemistry, and Chemistry.

PURPOSE OF RESEARCH:

The research and management of this position is aimed at the formulation, development, and analytics of long-acting drug combination therapeutic products for indications including (but not limited) to HIV, cancer, and Hepatitis B.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

RESEARCH - 90%

  • Perform formulations, analytics, and toxicology studies for to HIV, cancer, and Hepatitis B.
  • Formulate drug combination products using spray dry technology.
  • Support sample preparation and quantitative LC-MS/MS analysis of drug products.
  • Support experiments to validate and scale-up drug products in coordination with Commercial Manufacturing Organizations.
  • Assist with reports of analytical results and participate in manuscript writing and publishing describing the research outcomes.
    ADMINISTRATIVE - 10%
  • Assist with maintenance and service of equipment in the TLC-ART laboratory.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of laboratory chemicals, samples, equipment and disposables.
  • Help lab personnel troubleshoot instrument errors and operations when needed and coordinate repairs and service.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Biochemistry, Chemistry,
    and two years of research experience in biomedical research, OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Expertise in controlled experimental designs, bioanalytical assays and quantitative approach to data analysis, using the computer programs such as excel, prism.
  • Prior experience with laboratory ordering and organization, management.
    DESIRED QUALIFICTATIONS:
  • Strong scientific knowledge with proven productivity in pharmaceutical and biomedical science.
  • Expertise and background in drug formulation, analytical chemistry, pre-clinical studies, mass spectrometry, clinical pharmacology, and toxicology.
  • Ability to work and communicate with investigators across disciplines.
  • Ability to set priorities and timeline in carrying multiple projects within an interdisciplinary team environment.
