Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience: One year of acute or critical care experience is preferred.
License: Current license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
Certifications: Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT), Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS for critical care
Must-Have: Graduate of a NBRC approved Respiratory Therapist program, ACLS/CPR certifications, Respiratory protection
Job Description:
- Provide advanced-level respiratory care to patients to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control deficiencies and/or abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system within the prescription of a physician's order.
- Act as a resource to the CRT staff.
- Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol. Obtain arterial gases.
- Oversee and troubleshoot the operation of equipment for optimal patient care.
- Initiate Respiratory Protocol and interventions based on the interpretation of assessments.
- Administer medications in a timely and safe manner, evaluate effects, and re-evaluate appropriately and according to protocol.
- Ensure that the progress of patients is communicated to staff, physicians, and other departments.
- Maintain awareness of assigned patient's overall condition and communicate patient information with physicians and nurses.
- Make appropriate recommendations for patient care.
- Recognize the educational needs of patients and families in relation to health promotion and wellness.
- Teach patients and families self-care techniques and modalities.
- Complete documentation according to departmental standards and accurately document productivity information.
- Monitor supplies and equipment and notify appropriate personnel when supplies are low, out on loan, or broken.
- Utilize time effectively to achieve productivity standards, including utilizing low census time when the patient load does not support full productivity.
- Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying potential areas for improvement and potential safety hazards.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, offering ideas or feedback.
- Promote the profession of Respiratory Care and act as a resource, consultant, and mentor to staff within the department and patient care areas through the development of others.
- Participate in quality improvement and research activities as part of the Respiratory Care Team to guide the development of standards of patient care.
- May be required to float to other departments based on business needs and placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
