Job Description
Job Title: Respiratory Therapist

Job Specialty: Pulmonary

Job Duration: 9-week contract

Shift: 12h day shift, 5x8 Hr

Guaranteed Hours: 40.00

Experience: 1 year of respiratory therapy experience preferred

License: Current state Licensure (RLT) in applicable state of employment. Must have CRT by NBRC.

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Must-Have: Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Education Program, high school diploma/GED required, associate's degree preferred

Job Description:
- Deliver respiratory care procedures to patients in general, acute, critical care, and emergency areas according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform therapeutic modalities including patient monitoring, medication delivery, ventilation management, expansion therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
- Conduct diagnostic testing including ABG's, PFT's, EKG's, cardiac, bronchoscopy, and pulse oximetry.
- Assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency care by providing airway maintenance and management, and cardiac support.
- Respond to patient needs in a timely, effective manner and provide education and teaching to patients and families.
- Transport patients within the hospital or between facilities.
- Provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per departmental or facility policy.
- Develop care plans from thorough assessments via protocol criteria or directed physician orders.
- Document all patient care activities, evaluations, progress notes, and treatment records to meet standards of practice and legal requirements.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other customers concerning respiratory therapy services while maintaining confidentiality.
- Solve technical and interpersonal problems.
- Ensure the proper function of all equipment used and make necessary interventions.
- Anticipate, recognize, and assist others in identifying patient complications related to respiratory care.
- Demonstrate effective time management and proactively prioritize workload and meet productivity requirements.
- Adapt to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census, and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.
- Participate in personal, professional, and program development by attending department in-services and meetings.
- Assist in training respiratory therapy staff, students, and other hospital personnel.
- Act as a resource for new staff members and co-workers by sharing information and providing education.

Additional Skills: Prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) preferred, and floating may be required to any location within sixty miles of the original assignment location or identified float zone with possible duties outside original assignment requirements.
