Major Duties
MCCS is seeking a Program Manager, Retail Store Functional Systems, to lead retail initiatives for Marine Corps Exchanges (MCX). The ideal candidate will demonstrate strategic thinking and a strong track record in driving and managing retail technology projects. This role involves overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of various projects aimed at enhancing MCX retail customer and employee experiences.
Responsibilities will include serving as the primary relationship manager for functional retail technology teams. The incumbent will collaborate closely with various teams to understand their requirements and goals to develop technology roadmaps that support the success and growth of the MCX retail business. This will require translating functional business requirements into actionable Information Technology (IT) capabilities.
Responsible for leading and managing teams responsible for supporting retail applications, ensuring continuous learning and development among employees. Crafting a retail technology roadmap to select systems that meet the specific needs of MCX retail stores focusing on point-of-sale solutions.
The incumbent will manage the portfolio of retail-driven initiatives that impact corporate analytical systems including defining and validating architecture for comprehensive solutions, emphasizing integration points and data requirements across platforms, analytics, and financials. Develops and implements architectures and strategies to ensure 24x7 uptime and business continuity in case of system failures or disasters.
Represents the MCX retail teams, advocating for initiatives and addressing barriers to success when planning and implementing technology projects. Serving as program manager or lead project manager for key initiatives such as point of sale, payment systems or store/employee technology tools.
Collaboration across departments (e.g., digital, marketing, sales, business analytics, finance) will be essential to align retail initiatives with overall business objectives. Ability to set clear goals and expectations, provide guidance to ensure successful execution and testing of retail initiatives, and facilitate effective communication between technical and non-technical teams to define key requirements.
Reports and updates senior leadership on the progress of retail initiatives as well as oversees relationships with external vendors, software providers, and service providers, contracts, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with agreed-upon terms. Mitigating risks associated with retail systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and the regulations, including data security and privacy.
Develops and manages budgets for IT retail projects in coordination with project managers and technical POC's, effectively allocating resources and optimizing expenditures. Continuously improving processes and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Sharing the IT roadmap and initiatives that impact the retail roadmap with retail teams is essential for alignment and transparency.
Supervises full performance Store Planning team to include performing duties of: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, completing performance reviews and signing timecards, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action.
Frequently travels to Marine Corps field commands to provide technical guidance, advice and assistance, and attends required meetings, conferences and seminars. May work a fluctuating work schedule to complete work assignments outside of the typical work week and work hours.
This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.
Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Seven years of appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above . Experience must include a minimum of five years of experience in project management and a minimum of three years in leadership. Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or related field is preferred
Ability to quickly grasp, simplify, internalize, and communicate complex or technical concepts. Experience in delivering successful projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Experience in Agile and Waterfall methodologies. Extensive experience in emerging retail technologies, trends, platforms, and tools. Experience with Point of Sale (POS) systems.
Proficiency in project management tools, retail analytics platforms, and relevant software applications. Strong rapport with technical teams and understanding of the full software-development lifecycle. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
