Job Description

General Purpose of the Job:

This RN position will be part of the Heart and Vascular Center (HAVC). The Heart Center Holding is the pre and post procedural care area for patients receiving procedures in the HAVC including, but not limited to Cardiac, Peripheral, Electro Physiology, Interventional Radiology, Neuro-Interventional, and Non-Invasive Cardiology. This unit is open M-Fri 0600-2030. We care for both outpatients and inpatients before and immediately after procedures. This position supports the Cath lab and Cardiovascular Specialty Unit (4N). Patients requiring overnight care will transfer to CVSU or other inpatient unit.

Essential Duties:
  • Demonstrates the ICARE (behavioral) values, cooperation, and positive interpersonal relations when interacting with all persons within the Hospital environment and community.
  • Assess patient condition and initiate appropriate nursing and/or medical care in accordance with established guidelines and evidence-based practice.
  • Develops and implements appropriate plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient with subsequent reassessment and documentation of progress.
  • Delegates and directs specifics of care plan to physician, co-workers, and other healthcare associates.
  • Educates patient/family according to assessed needs.
  • Reports pertinent data of patient's condition to physician, supervisor, and other medical personnel, as appropriate.
  • Acts as liaison between members of the health care team, patient, and patient's family.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and practice in nursing care of cardiovascular, neurovascular, peripheral vascular, interventional radiology, and non-invasive cardiology patients.
  • Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of departmental quality improvement activities for unit operations, nursing staff, and patient outcomes.
  • Maintains and protects patients' rights under the HIPAA Privacy Standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

General Requirements
RN with a current permit or license to practice in the State of Michigan. BCLS within 60 days of hire. ACLS required.

Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years recent full-time direct patient care experience with cardiology patients of stepdown acuity, or 1 year of critical care experience. Successful completion of basic EKG and advanced dysrhythmia training required or equivalent experience. Experience with arterial line maintenance and monitoring as well as femoral venous or arterial sheath pulls within the last 2 years Charge nurse experience preferred.

Education

* Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians, co-workers, and other Sparrow Health System associates and external agencies. Current knowledge of pre and post-procedural care of patients having cardiac interventional procedures, interventional neuro procedures, interventional radiology procedures, and non-invasive cardiology procedures.
