Required:

High school diploma or equivalent; Current Oregon RN license; Concepts of medical, surgical asepsis and disease processes; Effective at communication, decision-making, planning and implementation; Knowledge of and ability to use specialized equipment for assigned unit; Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and their families, physicians, and fellow co-workers; Demonstrate leadership, accept responsibility for own actions; Active listener and is objective and impartial; Demonstrate a calm demeanor, able to prioritize appropriately; Adaptive to a multi-cultural, multi-lingual patient and staff population; Willing to work varied hours with flexible schedules & be on call.

Preferred:

BSN; Critical Care trained; Moderate Sedation Certification/Experience; Experience with surgical admissions/discharging.

Lic/Reg/Cert: Current Oregon RN license.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Must be in good general health, be able to frequently stoop, bend, and reach. Must be able to withstand constant walking, standing, lifting at least 50 pounds or more, push/pull regulation hospital equipment, occasional sitting. Must be able to function during periods of stress, trauma and/or disease. Demonstrate knowledge of and practice of safe body mechanics and willing to be flexible, within reason, to meet the staffing needs of an assigned unit.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Demonstrates and applies an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards and techniques. Applies nursing knowledge in accordance with corporate procedures and adheres to policies and procedures of the department and Medical Center. Maintains a current awareness of the abilities and limitations of each staff member and assigns duties appropriate to each individual.
  • Assesses the patient and implements appropriate nursing actions to meet the patient's physical, emotional, spiritual, social and intellectual needs; documents those needs with appropriate multidisciplinary approach, in a clear, concise, objective and legible way. Demonstrates ability to identify and solve problems using critical thinking and professional judgment.
  • Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively using pertinent data with physicians, patients, families and peers. Capable of being positive role model in evaluating, correcting and re-directing patient care staff as needed.
  • Serves as clinical resource person to staff members in their daily activities. Initiates, supports, modifies and improves nursing practice in providing patient care as departmental goals / objectives change and as nursing practice dictates. Regularly reviews work in progress to ensure care is proceeding as schedules. Involves patient and families in education and preparation for discharge.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and effectively utilize time management techniques. Assures, as a responsible member of the total healthcare team, that nursing care is accomplished effectively & that the medical regimen for each patient is carried out as prescribed by the physician in collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Participates with health care team members in facilitating patients & families learning throughout the hospital experience in preparation for discharge. Reinforces patients continued health care through teaching. Maintains a constant awareness of the legal aspects of nursing & demonstrates this in his/her decisions & documentation regarding patient care within the Registered Nurses scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of cost containment & economical use of supplies and equipment. Properly charges items as appropriate. Demonstrates time management effectively. Attends 75% of staff meetings & other meetings & in-services as requested. Is accountable for information given. Participates in peer evaluations. Reports to Nursing Management any work performance problems, policy violations, or misconduct by coworkers on unit. Participates in orientation of new personnel. Maintains quality & efficiency standards as set by the immediate supervisor & makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Performs and maintains skills and competency on an annual basis in post anesthesia nursing care as evidenced by completion of initial orientation, annual, and new procedure checklists.
  • Completes required hours of orthopedic education topics annually as directed by the Ortho Steering team for the Hip and Knee program certification.
  • Meets clinical competencies of hip and knee certification program in order to directly care for a Hip and Knee patient.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Pay Rate: $51.80 - $73.96
