Position functions as a Manager over the Division 14 Roadside Environmental Unit. Position provides leadership and management for the Roadside Environmental Unit including comprehensive planning, organizing, budget management, and personnel management.
Responsible for a comprehensive vegetation management program consisting of turf grass management, erosion control, seeding and mulching, herbicide & pesticide applications, roadside mowing, long arm mowing, litter removal, landscape beautification plantings and maintenance, wildflower establishment, rest area maintenance, and selective vegetation removal. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid NC driver's license. Work will require exposure to extreme weather conditions and the ability to work on uneven surfaces and slopes. May be required to workdays and nights during snow and ice operations, emergencies, and/or other adverse weather or extreme circumstances.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience supervising the work of others.
  • Experience administering contracts such as routine mowing, long arm mowing, litter removal, mulching, planting, and tree removal
  • Working knowledge of herbicide and pesticide materials available for use in vegetation management regimes.
  • Experience in customer service related to resolving problems that involve explaining engineering concepts to various customer groups.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
