ABOUT OUR OPERATION

The Support and Development Center provide services to Agnico Eagle's various Canadian and / or international mining operations in a variety of areas, including administration, financial services, IT, supply chain, human resources, communications, construction as well as technical services (geology, engineering, metallurgy, infrastructure, marketing, innovation, and digital transformation).

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Do you dream of better understanding rock mass behaviours that you have observed underground and on surface? Are you frustrated by not being able explain these observations and to implement mitigation measures? Are you interested in coordinating and managing the geotechnical team to integrate these findings into projects and studies? Are you interested in participating in the development, implementation and refinement of AEM geotechnical standards? If you answered ' yes ' the rock mechanics manager position as part of Agnico Eagle's Technical Services Geotechnical Team is for you. Reporting to the Geotechnical Advisor, the rock mechanics manager supervise and works with the members of Geotechnical Team and in collaboration with the other departments of Technical Services. He/she will be responsible for tasks related to rock mechanics studies to develop various projects, or support AEM's mining operations.

The candidate may, on occasion, be required to provide technical support to Agnico Eagle's divisional engineering teams. He/she will also participate in drafting recommendations with internal stakeholders to identify the necessary actions to implement to ensure the sustainability of existing and future mineral reserves. The Rock Mechanics Engineer will have to collaborate with other technical specialists in other disciplines, including geology, hydrology, mining, metallurgy, infrastructure and environment.

Your Next Challenges

  • Participate in planning of short and medium-term Geotechnical group;
  • Supervise and manage the execution of the planned Geotechnical group activities;
  • Participate in the development of AEM geotechnical standards and workflows;
  • Ensure the respect and adherence to standards through coaching and work product revision;
  • Act as discipline lead for underground and open pit excavation design projects;
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses for underground and open mining project;
  • Coordinate and manage field and design activities with external engineering firms;
  • Understand and challenge external consultant design parameters and recommendations;
  • Support divisions and project managers in matters related to the rock mechanics field;
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to communication geotechnical requirements, limitations and risks;
  • Write and revise technical reports, documents and presentations;
  • Travel to Agnico Eagle's sites to provide relevant technical support and produce visit reports;
  • Stay informed about technical improvements in his/her area and share his/her knowledge with his/her colleagues from technical services and mining operations;
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by his/her supervisor.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • University degree in Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering;
  • Graduate degree with specialization in Rock Mechanics Engineering is recommended;
  • Valid driving licence;
  • Member in good standing of a Canadian association of professional engineers ( OIQ, PEO or other provinces) ;
  • Minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in:
    • Rock mechanics characterization and domaining (core description and/or geological mapping);
    • Rock mechanics analytical, empirical and numerical modelling design and analysis for underground excavations / mine design and open pit slopes;
    • Ground control / geotech in underground and surface operations;
    • Field campaign and project management;
    • Supervision and development of technical personnel.
  • A combination of mining operations and consulting experience is preferable;
  • Both underground and open pit experience is preferred; however, greater importance is placed on underground experience;
  • Hydrogeology, structural geology and/or soil mechanics experiences will be assets;
  • Knowledge of specialized software (Deswik, LeapFrog, AutoCAD, MAP3D, Rocscience suite, DataMine, FLAC, etc.);
  • Ability to work French;
  • Fluency in Spanish will be an asset;
  • Proficiency in the use of the English language as you will be working in collaboration with other Agnico Eagle sites where English is the primary language;
  • Knowledge of programming language (VB, Python and other) or use of Power BI will be considered an asset.


Your Work Schedule

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday. Possibility of 5-2-4-3 schedule;
  • Workplace: Possibility to work in one of AEM's offices closer to your residence in Rouyn-Noranda, Preissac, Val-d'Or, Mirabel or Toronto. There is a possibility to have a hybrid work schedule, working a minimum of 2 days per week from an AEM office and the remainder of the week in telework.
