Description:
TransEd Valley line LRT is looking for a Rules and Compliance Manager to join their team of Rail Professionals. Reporting to the Deputy Operations Manager, the primary goal of the rules and compliance manager is to promote a culture of safety and accountability, ensuring that train operations are conducted in a manner that protects passengers, employees, and infrastructure while minimizing legal and operational risks.

TransEd Valley Line LRT is the first piece of the Valley Line project in Edmonton. Connecting Millwoods to downtown Edmonton, the Valley Line allows commuters to go from the South East of Edmonton to any where the LRT stops.

A typical day for the Rules and Compliance Manager
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure that train operations comply with national and international railway regulations.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that affect railway operations.
Policy Development
- Develop, review, and update operational policies and procedures to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Ensure policies align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Training and Education
- Design and implement training programs for staff on compliance and safety regulations.
- Conduct workshops and seminars to promote awareness of rules and compliance among employees.
Monitoring and Auditing
- Perform regular audits and inspections of train operations to assess compliance with established rules.
- Monitor operational practices and identify areas for improvement or non-compliance.
Incident Investigation
- Investigate incidents and accidents to determine compliance failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with safety teams to analyze data and improve operational safety.
Reporting
- Prepare reports on compliance findings, including risks and recommendations for management.
- Maintain records of compliance activities, incidents, and training.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments such as safety, operations, and human resources to promote compliance.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies and industry bodies to ensure alignment and cooperation.
Risk Management
- Identify and assess compliance risks within train operations.
- Develop strategies to mitigate risks and enhance compliance frameworks.
What you will bring to the team
- Secondary school or equivalent education and/or extensive relevant experience
- Familiarity with railway operations regulations, safety standards, and industry practices.
- Ability to analyze complex data and identify compliance issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for report writing and training.
- Meticulous in reviewing policies, procedures, and operational practices.
- Aptitude for identifying issues and proposing effective solutions.
- Locomotive Engineer qualification considered an asset
