The Denver Human Services (DHS) Safety and Industrial Hygiene Administrator will be responsible to develop/create/maintain a Safety and Health Management System for approximately 1500 DHS staff. This position will develop, research, modify, and implement policies and procedures to include facilitating the development of safety training programs for our DHS Safety and Health Management System in accordance with Denver Executive Order 65. This Administrator will be responsible for the elements of an Industrial Hygiene program at DHS which include airborne hazards, chemical hazards, biological hazards, ergonomic hazards, and physical hazards. Industrial hygienists use environmental monitoring and analytical methods to detect the extent of worker exposure. This Administrator will also employ engineering, work practice controls, and other methods to control potential health hazards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
This position will be part of a rotating on-call process within Facilities, Safety & Security division. When on-call may be required to work or respond immediately.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Safety and Industrial Hygiene Administrator will be responsible for developing a Safety & Health Management System for DHS.
- Safety and Industrial Hygiene Administrator will also be responsible for overseeing the implementation and monitoring of parts of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in regard to accessible parking accommodations. DHS has other responsibilities which require us to operate our program for maintaining inventories of Personal Protective Equipment for the agency, and for use during some city emergencies which this position must administer.
- The Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professional Administrator will serve as the primary Designated Employee Representative (DER) for the department program for DHS and will develop and provide training for new supervisors, and managers to ensure they comply with Executive Order 94, the Denver Employees Alcohol and Drug program.
- This Safety and Industrial Hygiene Administrator will serve in the Emergency Management Mass Care Operations Center as the Safety Officer to assist with the City's prevention, preparedness, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery efforts in preparation for potential emergencies and disasters in accordance with Executive Order 85, the City and County of Denver's Emergency Management Program.
- The Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professional Administrator will serve as Lead for our Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professional II position and will develop a planning/training matrix for each year, determine work priorities, assign processes, regularly receive feedback from that person as to progress and performance and monitor and report on progress.
- Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professional Administrator will serve as a consultant for our Safety and Health Management System, will resolve issues on a daily basis, conduct risk assessments, and job hazard analyses.
- Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professional Administrator will manage the workers compensation program for DHS. The position will meet with leadership to review open workers compensation cases and will continue to monitor these cases until closed. The position will ensure DHS is in compliance with worker compensation policies and procedures and will create training to train employees and supervisors throughout this process. This position will be responsible to share the results of periodic reports on workers compensation expenses because those expenses have an impact on the DHS budget.
- Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professional Administrator will be responsible to develop, maintain and follow up on building safety audits for all DHS facilities and will provide quarterly reports to the director on findings. Not just seeing and counting safety issues is important, but rather taking the next step to providing recommended solutions to those problems.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
- Three (3) years of professional-level occupational safety and health experience implementing and evaluating programs for compliance, accident prevention, employee involvement, and cost savings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Strong research capabilities and desire for ongoing learning
- Demonstrated experience building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience facilitating large class (25-100 attendees) safety trainings
- Experience in office ergonomics.
- Certification as a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist
- Passion about the well-being of employees and empowering them to voice their workplace health and safety concerns.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial or Environmental Health and Safety, a physical science, or a related field.
- Experience Requirement: None
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
