Description:

The Safety and Training Specialist assists the Environmental Safety & Health Manager in implementation of the Project Health and Safety and Training Programs and directly supports the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in development, management, and implementation of the DOE Integrated Safety Management System.
  • Provides safety and occupational health support, surveillance inspections and safety enforcement. Incident investigations, job hazard analysis, recordkeeping, day-to-day regulatory compliance, conducting inspections and audits.
  • Presents safety aspects of construction/demolition operations, fire and life safety code review of facilities and equipment, electrical safety, and provides training in safe practices and DOE, federal, and state regulations.
  • Develops training materials, trains, and educates the Project team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in a related field (e.g., engineering or sciences).

Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of industrial, federal, state or other governmental industrial safety or training experience, in a nuclear industrial and/or industrial remediation setting including responsibility for safety or training, occupational health, industrial safety and/or a combination of commensurate experience for major maintenance, construction, or remediation projects/activities
  • Experience performing and documenting industrial hygiene sampling.
  • Experience and a working knowledge of OSHA regulations, codes, and guidelines.

License, Cert or Registration
  • Current driver's license
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance enabling access to various government facilities.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
  • Must demonstrate ethics, responsibility, confidentiality, professionalism, punctuality and consistent dependability, organizational skills, ability to perform multi-task productivity standards established, must function well as a part of a team.
  • Must possess analytical skills, be detail oriented, and be able to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently.
