This position will direct and oversee the development, management and implementation of the company safety program to ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal agencies including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and company policies and procedures to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, and financial losses. The Safety Director will oversee the team of three safety officers.

The Safety Director will oversee the team of three safety officers.
Responsibilities:
- Travel to jobsites to inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices in order to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Develop new and/or existing safety policies/procedures as needed to reduce EMR and loss ratios including creating new procedures, additional employee training, equipment needs, etc.
- Analyze accident reports for cause; make timely recommendations and/or take appropriate action to mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks. Monitor workers' compensation claims to reduce lost work time.
- Maintain professional growth and development through local OSHA office, OSHA website, seminars and professional affiliations.
- Present and/or coordinate on-going safety and new employee orientation training to reduce employee injuries and maintain compliance. Arrange for CPR and first aid training and respirator medical exams and fit tests as required for compliance and maintain records of training completed.
- Compile accident data to complete required OSHA forms within 10 days of accident/incident and post required logs at jobsites according to statutory requirements.
- Perform a variety of administrative tasks such as paperwork, filing, monthly safety calendar, safety checklists, meetings, etc.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- 2-or-4 college degree in construction technology, construction management, operations management or related field preferred.
- 5 years safety related experience in the construction industry.
- OSHA 30 hour and OSHA 500 course certification required.
- First aid and CPR training required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
- Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards,
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to develop accident-prevention and loss-control systems.
- Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
- Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
- Skill in organizing and establishing priorities.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Must be detail-oriented and well organized.
- Demonstrated personal computer skills using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Valid NY State driver's license is required for regional travel to project sites. Position may require evening and or weekend hours in addition to overnight travel.
