Summary
The Safety Director will design, lead, and execute health and safety strategies and systems to minimize risks and prevent injury. This senior role is tasked with planning, coordinating, and overseeing all safety-related activities to drive a culture of safety, including managing safety staff, creating budgets, ensuring compliance, creating and adhering to goals, and developing preventative programs. This position will ensure that operations comply with safety regulations, best practices, and company policies. The Director will collaborate with subsidiary company leadership, safety professionals and field personnel. A deep understanding of hazards, regulations, and mitigation programs of the construction industry is necessary. An area of emphasis in the electrical construction industry is preferred.
What you'll do:
Strategy and Planning:
Lead the creation, implementation, and oversight of optimized, comprehensive safety strategies, goals, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Develop and oversee the Safety department's budget.
Lead the Safety Committee and safety personnel. Collaborate with and develop best practices with fellow Safety Directors in electrical round table peer group.
Implement a continuous improvement (CI) program and manage the deployment of Safety Management System improvements to focus on safety opportunities and mitigation strategies.
Compliance:
Ensure and audit full compliance with OSHA regulations, local construction safety laws, and other industry-specific standards.
Remain informed of all applicable existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety regulations and update policies and procedures accordingly.
Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and employee certifications are current.
Assure education all construction site staff on safe work practices, PPE requirements, and hazard communication protocols.
Site Safety Monitoring:
Conduct routine inspections, audits, and GAP assessments of active construction sites to align with internal expectations and legislative safety requirements.
Analyze business data, key performance indicators, and construction site risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards. Provide recommendations to mitigate risks and enforce safety procedures or corrective action.
Incident and Emergency Management:
Design and maintain safety training programs and emergency response plans, ensuring preparedness for minor and major incidents.
Lead investigations of construction site accidents, injuries, and near misses. Provide support, swift responses and follow-up care post incident. Ensure that root causes of accidents or incidents are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
Prepare detailed reports of incidents, including analysis and recommendations, and ensure timely submission to relevant stakeholders.
What you'll need for success:
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
OSHA 30 required. CHST, CSP, CSHM, OHST, FA/CPR, and NFPA70E a plus.
Minimum 9 years of relevant safety program experience.
Proven success developing and leading safety programs and strategies.
Electrical construction safety experience preferred. Large-scale commercial construction safety experience necessary.
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Strong leadership and influence abilities.
Ability to collaborate to achieve maximum results.
Track record in safety system implementation.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, with success evaluating business data and key performance indicators.
Strong communication skills. Ability to effectively read and write clear, accurate, and concise documents, reports, presentations, and/or business correspondence.
Skilled in Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Bluebeam desired.
Physically able (with or without an accommodation) to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable conditions including heat, cold, noise, and working in the presence of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment
