JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Engineer II is responsible for inspections and identification of day-to-day and upcoming hazards in the field. Using problem-solving skills, the Safety Engineer II investigates and analyzes incidents, providing guidance to field operations. Under the direction of the Senior Safety Manager, the Safety Engineer II serves as a resource for policy and regulation inquiries at the work site, and collaborates with the project team and the Senior Safety Managers on open issues.

JOB SCOPE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Primary Accountabilities
- Perform and assist with inspections
- Hazard recognition
- Conduct focused inspections; craft trade and regulatory compliance
- Execute fundamental and selected "Competent Person" level training
- Adjust provided content to adapt to training needs
- Hazard identification and mitigation from day-to-day through 3 weeks ahead
- Provide assistance to field staff to complete Job Hazard Analysis process
- Review completed JHA to identify upcoming hazards
- Determine training required related to activities/tasks
- Respond to policy and regulation inquiries in work/task area
- Understand company policies and procedures
- Understand Cal/OSHA regulations
- Familiar with other relevant standards (NFPA, ANSI, ASME, etc.)
- Collaborate with project team and Senior Safety Managers to report/escalate open issues
- Perform incident investigation and assist with root cause analysis as directed by the Senior Safety Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training
- Safety-related degree or equivalent related experience
- Able to sit for the CHST within 6 months
- OSHA 30 Hour for Construction
- FA/CPR Trained
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local construction safety orders and general industry safety orders
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a broad audience
- Competencies in fall protection, excavation safety, confined space entry, scaffolding
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of Safety Engineer experience required
- 4 - 5 years of Safety Engineer experience is typical
