SUMMARY:

The role of the Safety Manager is to ensure a safe work environment for employees and compliance to the applicable state and federal health and safety laws including L&I, WISHA, OSHA, PSM, and DCMA requirements. This position will lead Karman NW Safety Committee which is responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace. As a safety manager, excellent attention to detail to identify hazards is essential as well as discovering opportunities for improving conditions and executing various safety programs. The ability to effectively communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is vital.

The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead Karman's Safety Committee
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal as well as common sense guidelines
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess and mitigate risk
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by periodic evaluation of work areas, employee conduct/compliance to establish procedures and overall operations
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker's compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
  • Must possess good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Must possess excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Must possess exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Required Education: High School diploma
  • Preferred Education: BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred
  • Preferred Experience: 3-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as safety manager or in a principal safety role.
