The Role

The Safety & Security Coordinator, in collaboration with the Manager, Safety & Security, will be responsible to develop and implement plans that ensure all compliance requirements are met and terminal safety and security operations are effective and efficient. This will include the Safety Management System (SMS) program and Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for the current Terminal 7 and future Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Safety & Security Coordinator will work collaboratively to ensure all stakeholders are trained in and aware of safety and security roles and their obligations. The Safety & Security Coordinator will assume a backup role to Manager, Safety & Security in emergency situations. This role will work proactively with other team members to identify and mitigate safety risks. This position will be a part of the JFK Millenium Partnership (JMP) organization. JMP currently operates Terminal 7 and is in the process of developing the new Terminal 6 at JFK.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the terminal's safety and security plans to ensure continuous compliance with all standards, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Conducts comprehensive safety and security assessments, audits and tests.
  • Promotes workplace safety, and consistent safe work practices.
  • Supports the development of policies and procedures to ensure terminal security compliance with applicable regulations, and airport rules, policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the PA aviation security tabletop design, to incorporate measures from T7 Terminal Security Program and future T6 programming
  • Analyzes safety and security issues and monitors corrective actions to conclusion.
  • Supports the response to requests for information from stakeholders including the Transportation Security Administration, Port Authority PD and federal and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Supports the implementation of the Terminal Safety & Security Program training program.
  • Maintains and updates programs, policies or other security related documents and ensure appropriate rollout of same.
  • Builds relationships with terminal tenants, providing and overseeing a safety orientation program and collaborating to resolve safety issues.
  • Conducts SMS investigations, including accidents, incidents and near-misses.
  • Develops and implements amendments to the Terminal Security Program.
  • Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position may be assigned as required.


Primary Qualifications
  • 3+ years in a safety and security coordinator role, or similar based experience, preferably in an aviation or airport-based setting.
  • Experience working effectively in a highly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical judgment and decision making abilities.
  • Experience in crisis management and incident command highly preferred.
  • A relevant undergraduate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and professional work experience.
  • Track record of successfully managing and motivating teams; able to lead training sessions and comfortable with public speaking in front of large audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Organization and planning skills crucial for multi-tasking while prioritizing and executing tasks.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage situations in high pressure situations .

  • An ability to manage multiple projects without compromising on quality.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to navigate uncertainty within a working environment.
  • High level of attention to detail.
