Description
This role is the foundational step in a technical sales career path that may include progression towards a Sales Engineer II or a Field Engineering role within 2 to 4 years, based on performance and business needs. In this role the Sales Engineer I is required to attain their Swagelok Field Engineer Certification in order to provide their customer base exceptional technical support and be the embodiment of being the "Fluid System Experts the World Relies On' for their customers.
Upon completing a 12-to-18-month onboarding period-including Swagelok Field Engineering certification-the Sales Engineer I will assume ownership of a defined book of business to support. In addition to the Field Engineering certification, other onboarding objectives are completing an internal rotational program, spending time in relevant functional areas of the business to increase business acumen and fluency, shadowing and customer observations, and other standard orientation objectives.
This role will support their book of business through phone, email, and face-to-face interactions. In addition, using a proactive data analysis model, the Sales Engineer I identifies and promotes product & service offerings that align with a customer's purchase profile. They achieve this through technical solutions proposals and product & service introduction efforts, intending to win and maintain customer trust, confidence, and long-term business.

Account Management:
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing Team to identify and qualify leads.
- Maintain ongoing communication with, discover key product and service opportunities within, and gain knowledge of key accounts.
- Using appropriate business tools, conduct analysis of targeted accounts to determine what product and service offerings to feature. Determine selling tactics that will be used to engage targeted accounts.
- Drive profitable revenue growth from within your assigned book of business and prospective customers that align with our strategic initiatives.
- Prospect for new sales opportunities via outbound calling, emailing campaigns, and customer visits.
- Develop and maintain territory and account plans aligned with the company's Strategic Plan.
- Conduct market research to identify industry trends and competitive information.
- Demonstrate passion, active listening, and empathy in all interactions.
Strategic Business Development:
- Actively engage in customer meetings, presentations, and solution-based selling to promote targeted products and services, ensuring alignment with SNC's growth objectives.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to execute targeted campaigns, customer engagement initiatives, and operational activities that support Swagelok Northern California's business and marketing objectives-driving growth and delivering value in prioritized markets.
- Develop a deep understanding of customers' application needs and coordinate the creation of solutions/designs that would solve customers' problems and add value to their operations while driving product pull-through of Swagelok components.
Fluid System Optimization:
- Collaborate with Field Engineers on technical applications and solutions.
- Coordinate and participate in the development and delivery of fluid handling solutions to specific customer needs and specifications through project support or onsite troubleshooting, which may include creating P&ID's of potential solutions.
- Perform system evaluations of customer fluid systems to identify layout improvements, drive plant efficiencies, and provide insight into best practices to improve the functionality and/or maintainability of customer systems.
- Troubleshoot customer applications and propose alternative products or processes to optimize functionality.
Product Expertise Application:
- Select and recommend products for specific customer applications, focusing on helping customers select products and solutions that meet their application requirements and support their delivery requirements.
- Serve as the Swagelok representative in support of existing installations and product returns.
Learning and Development:
- Apply and grow technical knowledge in fluid system solutions and products to better serve customer needs and offer application-specific recommendations.
- Develop yourself through external and internal training, continuing education, and job rotation, wherever relevant.
Education, Experience, Skills, and Competencies
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical sales, or a related business field OR completion of a two-year degree or comprehensive certification program in a relevant technical discipline. (required)
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered. - Experience engaging with customers in any setting (retail, service, or technical) is preferred.
- Exposure to fluid systems, industrial equipment, or mechanical components is beneficial.
Skills & Competencies:
- Technical Knowledge (Industry and Functional) - Have or able to quickly develop strong technical acumen in industrial fluid systems-including knowledge of components such as fittings, valves, regulators, tubing, and fluid system assemblies.
- Have or able to quickly develop a foundational understanding of how these components are applied across diverse industries (e.g., oil and gas, clean energy, general industrial).

Physical Demands & Work Environment
- This role will require frequent travel to customer sites to facilitate face-to-face meetings and regular on-site presence at our Fremont office.
