General Purpose:

Under the direction of the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, this position will lead the resin sales team responsible for current account management and new business growth. The position will be responsible for generating sales growth in North America with new and established customer accounts. The Sales Manager - Resins will be involved with joint travel with the sales team to support on-going training efforts, maintain existing business, develop new business, and execute the overall resins business strategy. Additional responsibilities include market and business development, forecasting, weekly and monthly reporting, CRM management, pricing and contract negotiations, team development, and other responsibilities as determined by the Resins Business Manager.

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities that are requirements in order to perform the job:
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of products, their targeted applications, and market trends.
  • Development of effective action plans in conjunction with corporate and resins business unit strategies.
  • Develops aggressive sales plans.
  • Understands market needs and provides the technical customer feedback to R&D.
  • Develops product cost models and determines if a new business candidate can meet the company's financial targets.
  • Constructs and achieves aggressive sales goals in conjunction with the business strategies.
  • Manages and provides guidance to sales teams to yield successful multifunctional relationships with both existing and new customers, identifying key decision makers to support long term relationships.
  • Develops and utilizes extensive knowledge of customer needs and Sumitomo Bakelite product and service offerings to form account strategies and promote long term value creation by the team.
  • Effectively works in collaborative process to analyze customer and market needs and coordinate with the Research and Development teams to develop products to meet the needs.
  • Provides consistent managerial support to new as well as experienced sales professionals to achieve regional sales goals and objectives.
  • Uses and can teaches value added selling techniques to differentiate SB from its competitors and deliver premium value to the corporation versus general market returns.
  • Manages and advances the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) experience.
  • Manages the new product development utilizing the Toll Gate methodology.

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based on business needs:
  • Perform job specific training for direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to engage with sales representatives and broad customer markets.
  • Motivated self-starter with a high degree of initiative and influencing skill.
  • Experience in sales processes and contract negotiations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet short-term and long-term deadlines.
  • Desire to travel across the U.S. and Canada to support up to 6 sales professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with focus on drive for results.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook - Required
  • SAP, Business Objects, CRM software - Preferred
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record per Company Vehicle Policy.

Education/Experience Guidelines:
  • B.S. degree in Sales Management, Marketing, Business Management or Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of B2B field sales and product management experience in the resins or chemical industry or complementary sales field.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership sales position.
