JOB DESCRIPTION:

The School Improvement Specialist will play a critical role in driving academic excellence across Birmingham City Schools. This position is dedicated to working with CSI (Comprehensive Support) schools to analyze academic data, develop improvement plans, and implement district-wide initiatives aimed at enhancing student achievement. The specialist will work closely with the Academic Officer, the Federal Programs Department, and the Student Success Department to ensure that data-driven decisions are at the forefront of program and initiative planning.

POSITION TIME PERIOD: 2024 - 2026 - Two year school term position only.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret academic performance data from failing schools to identify areas of improvement.
  • Develop comprehensive reports and present findings to district leadership, school administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Utilize data to inform the development of school improvement plans and monitor their effectiveness over time.
  • Collaborate with district leadership to support the implementation of academic initiatives aligned with district goals.
  • Provide schools with the necessary tools, resources, and training to effectively execute district academic programs.
  • Monitor the progress of initiatives and provide ongoing support to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Work with district learning networks to provide academic data, insights, and support to schools within the network.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by promoting the use of data in instructional planning and decision-making.
  • Assist the Academic Officer, Executive Director of Curriculum and Assessment and Accountability Executive Director in developing and implementing strategies to improve student achievement across the district.
  • Provide the Academic Officer with regular updates on the progress of school improvement efforts and district initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of district-wide academic policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the Federal Programs Department to ensure that schools are compliant with federal regulations and that funding is used effectively to support academic improvement.
  • Work with the Student Success Department to review data and identify trends that can inform the development of student support programs.
  • Ensure that data review processes are consistent, and that information is shared across departments to support holistic program planning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.

A minimum of four (5) years successful teaching experience.

Demonstrates excellence in the teaching of curriculum.

A valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate.
