Position Title: K-8 School Principal
Qualifications: 1. Holds the appropriate Principal certification or be eligible for Principal certification in Massachusetts.
2. Holds a Masters or higher degree from a recognized college or university in education, supervision and
administration preferred.
3. Has a minimum of at least five (5) years of teaching and supervisory experience.
4. Has experience and/or knowledge in the development of small learning communities with regard to academic
achievement, assessment and small school models.
5. Has a knowledge of educational research effective elementary school educational practices and the accreditation
process.
6. Has experience, knowledge and understanding of urban education at the Elementary School level.
7. Has experience and knowledge of working with a culturally diverse student, faculty, and parent population.
8. Bilingual preferred (Spanish).
9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports To: The School Principal shall report directly to the Superintendent of Schools.
Job Goal: Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent with wide latitude to exercise independent leadership and
judgement, the School Principal is responsible for the instructional programs, curriculum development and supervision
of all personnel. As the School's Chief Administrative Officer, he/she is responsible for the total management of the
school and personnel.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Develops and implements Comprehensive Educational Plan with school leadership team.
2. Participates in screening, hiring, selection and supervision of all personnel.
3. Develops school-based budget with staff, district leadership team and Superintendent.
4. Oversees and supervises the equitable distribution of resources, grants, and aligns all available funds to enhance
instructional programs.
5. Implements, coordinates and supervises all instructional programs, schedules and organizational policies.
6. Develops, implements, clarifies and supervises goals and objectives towards school accreditation and restructuring.
7. Implements and provides leadership in curriculum and instruction, staff and program orientation, home and school
linkages, community and agency collaborations, faculty and labor management issues and collaborates with
consultants.
8. Directly supervises and assumes responsibility for the procurement of instructional materials and equipment, school
plant and facilities.
9. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of school-based policies in consultation with the school
leadership team, Superintendent of Schools and School Committee.
10. Takes responsibility for the development and/or completion of all reports, records and written communications
required to facilitate the work of the school and school district.
11. Accepts and active role in professional organizations and maintains high visibility in the Lawrence community.
12. Participates, as assigned by the Superintendent, in the district level leadership/cabinet team.
