JOB FUNCTION
Provides individual and group therapy; conducts psychological testing and evaluation of students; and monitors treatment-planning efforts.
This position directly reports to the school principal and functionally reports to the other school administrators and district directors. This position coordinates with the other teachers, instructional coaches, and school social workers along with other support staff, students, guardians, and the community.
TERM
Shall work the 10-month school calendar as defined by the Board of Education and Collective Bargaining Agreement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list is not all inclusive and is only intended to illustrate the various responsibilities and duties performed.Provides individual and group therapy. Conducts psychological testing and evaluations of students. Participates, facilitates, and documents the treatment-review team process in concert with administrators. Monitors treatment-planning efforts on students, in classrooms, and in school-based programs in concert with administrators. Acts as a treatment and child-care resource person for line staff in classrooms and school-based programs; monitors case records to ensure quality and professionalism. Acts as a resource person to the educational department. Attends court hearings at the request of an administrator. Provides weekly reports of feedback and observations to the school principal. Conducts ongoing needs assessment for staff-training purposes and assists in the implementation of in-service training programs. Attends/guides the process of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) through meetings for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district, and/or state objectives. Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as required; provides professional learning to implement best practices and methodologies to support teaching, learning, and district goals that promote growth during such meetings as required. Establishes and implements small group management structure and rules that ensure the physical and mental safety of all students; ensures safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors of the school; supervises all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary. Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records. Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in school psychology. Recognizes and supports diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives. Maintains an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participant attitude on the part of all staff and students; celebrates the achievements and successes of students. Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner unless a qualified absence has been approved as described in the collective bargaining agreement. Performs additional related duties within the scope of this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESHighly developed ability in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests, specifically objective, projective, and neurological test batteries. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated skill in clinical interviewing. Demonstrated ability in group therapy, group management, individual therapy, and family counseling. Excellent leadership skills to oversee and support the work of interns and staff. Demonstrated skills in consultation and the ability to work as part of a team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Masters degree in related subject area; appropriate state license or certification; School Psychologist Endorsement are required. At least two years of psychology experience in a school setting is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and standing, bending, and moving. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. If requested, reasonable accommodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of their job, absent undue hardship.
