GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Practice of school psychology in a public educational setting, as it relates to identification of, and services for, students served through Special Education in the Sahuarita Unified School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as a child advocate, promoting the educational, social and emotional growth of students and maintains a positive attitude toward his/her profession and work with students
- Performs and reports school-based psychoeducational evaluations including comprehensive intellectual, emotional/behavioral, and adaptive assessments of students
- Analyzes assessment results and eligibility criteria for special education services of referred student; provides relevant information to the Multi-Disciplinary Educational Team (MET); may also interpret evaluations from outside agencies.
- If appropriate, provides conclusions and recommendations for development of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for the specified student as needed for programming
- Makes program recommendations
- Serves as a member of multi-disciplinary teams in student assessment and placement
- Helps team to ensure that students are placed in the least restrictive environment
- Consults with teachers regarding the academic and behavioral needs of students
- Supervises such interns and practicum students as may be assigned or permitted
- May provide individual and/or group school-based counseling services to student
- Serves as a resource to special committees, school administrators and other school personnel
- Serves as a liaison between school and community organizations
- Participates in professional growth activities
- Works closely with parents and the community to ensure supportive services for students
- Performs related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree
- Arizona certification as a School Psychologist
- Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.
- Functional knowledge of federal and state special education regulations.
- Strong psychometric background, including an understanding of (and ability to use) a variety of normative, criterion-based and informal assessments.
- Ability to communicate complex assessment data and implications (both verbally and in written form) to parents and school staff.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a practicing School Psychologist
- Training within an APA approved school psychology program
- Ed.S. or Ph.D. in School Psychology; Arizona-licensed psychologist, NCSP.
