Science Division Chair
Science Department Responsibilities
- Leading the division in the study of current educational research that supports strong science practices and leads shifts in curriculum and instructional practices to align with that research.
- Develop three dimensional assessments aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards in coordination with course teams.
- Analyzes curriculum for all courses in the Science Division and collaborates with Professional Learning Communities to ensure all students have access to grade-level rigorous and supportive instruction daily.
- Coordinate ongoing professional learning in science curriculum in alignment with the district and school priorities.
- Monitor and lead response to the Illinois Science Assessment growth measures.
- Participate in the York MTSS Committee to lead and measure the impact of Tier 2 interventions.
- Develop and support coordination between Literacy and Math Divisions
General Division Chair Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Demonstrates vision and provides leadership to support meeting school improvement plan and district strategic plan goals.
- Uses data to analyze strengths and areas of growth for the Division and School.
- Demonstrates student-centered thinking and problem solving.
- Advances the profession through participation in local, state and national professional groups.
- Is an active participant in the Building Leadership Team and other School & District leadership teams.
Curriculum and Instruction
- Communicates division goals and priorities to all stakeholders as the liaison of the division.
- Develops capacity of teachers through delegated teacher leadership opportunities. .
- Facilitates and supports articulation of curriculum and program development for grades 6-12 in coordination with district staff.
- Works collaboratively with building and district leadership to set and maintain high expectations for students and educators .
- Uses both formative and summative staff evaluation procedures to improve teaching with formal and informal feedback to improve instructional practices.
- Provides timely and specific feedback to staff by: Visiting classes and preparing observation reports through the formalized observation process and informal feedback loops
- Preparing and sharing non-tenured and tenured teacher summative evaluations
- Develops, plans, and offers resources for teacher growth and development.
- Facilitates the screening and hiring of division personnel in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Instruction and Principal.
- Assists the Assistant Principal for Instruction in developing the master schedule.
- Supervises, prepares, and administers the division budget to allocate funds in alignment with division, building, and district goals.
- Supervises the use and maintenance of facilities, equipment, supplies, and book orders.
- Advocates for divisional initiatives within the district and community.
