This is a full-time exempt position.

ADM, a global leader in human and animal nutrition and the world's premier agricultural origination and processing company, has an opening for a Scientist, Protein Solutions at our Corporate Research center located in Decatur, Illinois.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to support our protein ingredient business by closely collaborating with external and internal partners, ingredient and processing scientists, sensory and application scientist and quality and operation leaders.

Job responsibilities

• To design protein blends for the protein portfolio following customer's needs and specifications
• To manage the generation of scientific data for global protein ingredient compliance in full alignment with regulatory and quality guidelines.
• To lead and execute the development, analysis, and optimization of protein ingredients.
• Support the Specialty Ingredients business in a timely manner by utilizing an understanding of structure-function evaluations for internal and external partners.
• Collaborate with various teams to support Alternative Protein business by applying knowledge of individual ingredients and multi-ingredients system to accelerate innovation.
• To enable productivity and process development research by generating scientific data and technical insight on finished ingredients for technology optimization.

Skills and proficiencies

• M.S. or B.S. in Food Science and Human Nutrition, chemistry, biology or related field of study
• Preferable 2-5 years of experience in protein research and understanding of:
  • the use of protein ingredients into final food systems
  • the chemistry, sensory, and functionality properties
  • basic ingredient analytical techniques
  • bench/pilot development work
• Ability to work within cross-functional teams on research projects that involve the development and improvement of protein solutions for food applications.
• Ability to collaborate with and have good written and verbal communication skills when working with colleagues in Commercial, Research, and Operations groups
• To promote and conduct research projects with a safety mindset & support ADM culture of innovation and collaboration.
• Be a good teammate with good interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated and willing to work hands-on at the laboratory and pilot facilities
• Good communication, organizational and documentation skills
• The position would require approximately 10% travel and will be based in Decatur, IL.
