The scientist will play a key role in supporting the R&D department's capacity to provide custom product lines. This role lies at the intersection of microfluidics, material science, polymer chemistry, and automation. The individual will be responsible for optimizing hydrogel formulations and production processes, including scale-up and transfer to a manufacturing setting under design control. The Scientist, Technology Transfer, has a crucial role in ensuring efficient and effective operations within R&D, maintaining equipment, providing technical guidance, and ensuring adherence to quality standards.

This role reports to the Associate Director, Process Development.
Responsibilities
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Subject Matter Expert in polymer chemistry & hydrogel formulation.
    • Operate microfluidics devices for production of custom products.
    • Train R&D and manufacturing personnel on custom production workflows.
    • Perform advanced technical tasks and troubleshooting in lab in support of continuous process improvements
    • Conduct inspections, tests, and evaluations and prepare reports associated with identifying and resolving technical issues and ensure compliance with quality standards.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices relevant to the field.
  • Process Development:
    • Optimize technical processes, procedures, and workflows; identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate solutions.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and optimize resource utilization.
    • Monitor performance metrics, analyze data, and generate reports to assess process efficiencies and identify opportunities for enhancement.
    • Perform process scale-up and tech transfer activities including hands-on training of technicians and conducting stability studies.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure compliance with quality control measures, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
    • Investigate and address customer feedback on custom products promptly and effectively.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Conduct technical reviews and design reviews, draft manufacturing procedures, and prepare design control documentation.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports, summaries, and documentation related to technical operations, maintenance, and improvements.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, equipment performance, and inventory.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Provide guidance to a team of technicians, assigning tasks, setting priorities, and monitoring progress.
    • Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and professional development.
    • Train new team members, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
Requirements
  • Relevant technical certification or associate degree, or relevant Bachelor's degree.
  • 6+ years hands-on experience in an industry lab setting.
  • 5+ years leading teams in industry lab settings.
  • Subject matter expert in conjugation chemistry, polymer chemistry and/or hydrogels.
  • Experience in process development, scaling, and tech transfer from R&D to manufacturing under design control.
  • Proficiency in using and troubleshooting various tools, equipment, and software related to the job.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.


Our salary ranges are calculated by role and level. Your position within that range will be determined by your job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, and training/certifications. In addition to those factors, we also examine internal equity as well as consider current market rate, and title may be assessed one level lower or higher accordingly. After you join the company your performance, contributions, and results along with business and organizational needs will affect your base salary. The base salary range for this full-time position is between $115,000 - $155,000 + equity + benefits.
