Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Scientist III to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. The Scientist will be tasked with leading multiple projects related to the synthesis of solid electrolytes and related compounds.

Job Duties
  • Lead the development of new solid electrolyte compositions and performance testing
  • Apply principles of inorganic chemistry to design, formulate, and synthesize new solid electrolyte materials
  • Hands-on laboratory work and direction of junior researchers
  • Perform basic materials characterization as needed to understand the surface and bulk properties of the system under study
  • Management of academic collaborations
  • Collaboration with internal powder production and quality control teams
  • Conform to all safety precautions and protocols
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conducted experimentation
  • Clean and organize common equipment and lab areas
  • Document and follow standard operating procedures as well as assist in drafting or editing procedures during process development

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree in Material Science, Inorganic Chemistry, or a related discipline
  • Structured problem-solving and analytical skills and strong technical skills in areas related to solid-state chemistry, mechanochemical synthesis, electrochemistry, or sulfide-based materials
  • Experience with analytical and characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, FTIR, Raman, EIS, and/or BET
  • Hands-on experience designing and executing solid-state syntheses; experience with glovebox use and air-sensitive materials is a plus
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving research and development needs
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented mindset with an eye toward practical solutions
  • Excellent work ethic and ability to quickly demonstrate independence
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Salary Range: $83,000 - $132,000/annually
