Job Title: Technician
Job Specialty: Scrub
Job Duration: 12 months
Shift: 40 hours per week; 4 days with 10-hour shifts; off days vary; shift timings 11:00 to 21:30; 2 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 40
Experience: 1 year of clinical operating room experience is highly desired
License: Must meet one of the specified criteria for practicing surgical technology
Certifications: Current certification in surgical technology through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); BLS from American Heart Association
Must-Have: Certification and completion of an accredited educational program for surgical technologists, or relevant training/experience as specified
Job Description:
- Provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital standards.
- Assist in the coordination of patient care by collaborating with registered nurses and other health team members and participating in performance improvement activities.
- Implement patient care by creating and maintaining asepsis, performing scrubbing duties, and communicating patient information to appropriate personnel.
- Account for all equipment and supplies used in patient care.
- Maintain effective communication with peers, health team members, patients, and visitors while supporting teamwork within the department and units.
- Perform the role of clinical preceptor for scrubbing by following the orientation outline and collaborating with the patient care coordinator and educator/clinical nurse specialist.
- Maintain cleanliness in the unit and handle equipment use and care responsibly.
- Stand for long periods, walk, bend, crouch, and lift/move patients frequently, with some lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Work under stressful conditions, meet deadlines, or work irregular hours, including possible call duty or weekend/holiday shifts.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards to establish a safe work environment.
Environment: Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, communicable diseases, and moderate to high noise levels. Requires corrected hearing and vision within the normal range.
