Job Title: Scrub Technician
Job Specialty: Cardiovascular Operating Room
Job Duration: 12 Weeks
Shift: Day Shift - 0630-1500 with 2 weekday calls and every 3rd to 4th weekend call
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Clinical operating room experience - Highly desired: 1 year
License: Must have current certification in surgical technology
Certifications: BLS from American Heart Association
Must-Have:
- Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination
- Current certification in surgical technology through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Must meet one of the following requirements:
a) Completed an accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds certification.
b) Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the armed forces.
c) Evidence of employment in surgical technology prior to a specified date.
d) Serves as part of the federal government.
Job Description:
- Provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in compliance with professional and hospital standards.
- Assist in the coordination of patient care by supporting registered nurses in planning and collaborating with other health team members.
- Implement patient care by creating and maintaining asepsis and performing scrubbing duties.
- Communicate patient information to the appropriate persons and account for all equipment and supplies used in patient care.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with peers, health team members, patients, and visitors.
- Maintain adaptability and support teamwork within the department and units. Resolve problems and meet the department's Customer Service Quality Standards.
- Serve as a clinical preceptor for scrubbing and follow the orientation outline in collaboration with the patient care coordinator and educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- Maintain cleanliness in the unit and ensure equipment is clean and well cared for during surgical cases.
- Fulfil other job duties and responsibilities as required.
Additional Information:
- Must possess knowledge of organizational policies and safety precautions to provide patient care safely.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and lifting/moving patients.
- Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity and reaching with hands/arms.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
- Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours, and may be required to take calls or work weekends/holidays based on departmental needs.
