Job Description
The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) is looking for an innovative and forward-thinking Educator to envision and oversee initiatives related to Secondary Science Assessment.
As the Secondary Science Assessment Specialist, you will work with our state assessment vendors and oversee the development of secondary science assessments for students in grades 6-10. You will provide training for school personnel of all levels: teachers, administrators, parents, other state employees, and the public, to improve education. You will work with the assessment team to provide training and expertise in the use of data analysis for our statewide assessments to improve student learning and outcomes in Utah's public schools. This position will also perform other assessment related duties as a member of the USBE Assessment & Accountability team. Your work will directly impact the lives of Utah students and educators.

Principal Duties
As a Secondary Science Assessment Specialist, you will:
- Oversee the development of items for assessment of student performance on the Utah Science Core Standards in grades 6-10.
- Collaborate with the Teaching & Learning department on science initiatives.
- Participate in the Assessment to Achievement program.
- Facilitate professional learning experiences for a variety of purposes and stakeholder groups.
- Implement the Strategic Plan of the Utah State Board of Education.
- Serve on various councils, committees, and task forces to coordinate USBE efforts.
- Travel to various locations for and to provide professional learning.
- Engage and support LEA communities from a variety of backgrounds, locations, and cultures both in-person and remotely.
- Other duties as assigned by the Assessment Director.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in a science field or science education
- A Secondary Science Endorsement
- A current professional educator license
- Understanding of and belief in the essential components outlined in Utah's PCBL Framework
- At least 5 years of classroom teaching experience
- Enjoys creativity, collaboration, and innovation
- Knowledge of Utah Core Standards in Science
- Experience with teaching adult educators
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills
- A master's degree
- Endorsed in multiple science areas
- Coaching Experience
- Assessment development workshop experience
