Sector Data Analyst - Equities

Our client is seeking an exceptional Sector Data Analyst to work alongside Equities portfolio managers (PMs). In this position you will take ownership of the alternative data covering publicly listed companies and work closely with PMs to build out data projects that will provide actionable investment insights for your teams. You'll be involved during every phase of the process, including coming up with potential data ideas to investigate, building out processes to capture new data, and providing recommendations/interpretations of the data. Ultimately you will develop expertise in a certain sector as you learn how to apply data from a wide variety of sources to answer investment questions.

The right candidate will be equipped with skills that allow them to be self-sufficient in the process of finding data sources, performing ETL, analyzing and then presenting data results to their team. The role requires a high degree of autonomy during the research, planning and execution phases, therefore the candidate must be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mind-set and have exceptional problem solving skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, develop, and deploy scripts and processes to connect various data sources (e.g. web, vendor data, and unstructured data)
• Monitor automated data collection, analytics, and cleansing infrastructure
• Build scripts that will improve our proprietary data evaluation process by making it more flexible or scalable across data sets
• Collaborate with data strategy team to discover new sources that can be beneficial for your sector
• Analyze data using standard statistical tools and techniques
• Pinpoint trends, correlations and patterns in complicated data sets to provide custom solutions to management
• Collaborate with investment staff to brainstorm creative uses for data in the investment process
• Conduct research autonomously to learn where data exists and how it can be retrieved and analyzed in order to help build investment theses
• Work with portfolio managers to prioritize projects that show strong potential in answering questions on their stocks

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
• 2+ years of experience
• Strong analytical, data processing and programming skills (Python/SQL a must)
• Experience with any of the following systems: Apache Airflow, AWS/GCE/Azure, Jupyter, Docker, Snowflake, Databricks/Spark
• Experience with Tableau a plus
• Ability to implement ETL processes and manage code repos
• Ability to explain technical concepts (programming/databases/stats) to non-technical audiences
• Ability to make recommendations when faced with imperfect information
• Strong client service and proactive mindset
• Strong oral and written communication skills, most importantly, must be a team player
• Financial industry experience and a passion for stocks/markets is a plus
