Account Manager

Account Managers are responsible for overseeing and expanding business relationships with assigned accounts in a specific market territory. They serve as client advocates, ensuring client needs are understood and addressed while meeting business sales objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers in assigned accounts.
  • Position the company as the preferred supplier by understanding customer needs and delivering customized solutions.
  • Develop and execute strategic Account Development Plans (ADPs), sales forecasts, and budgets for key accounts, with measurable growth objectives.
  • Handle customer projects and sample requests, ensuring quality and alignment with growth targets and company goals.
  • Retain and expand existing business by identifying opportunities and introducing additional products or services to customers.
  • Negotiate pricing agreements within established guidelines and manage account-specific credit, pricing, rebates, and terms.
  • Track market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to identify new business opportunities.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including R&D, Customer Service, Marketing, and Supply Chain, to ensure seamless project execution and order fulfillment.
  • Provide management with regular reports on account performance, market dynamics, and customer insights.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

This is a home-based position within the assigned sales territory and reports directly to the National Sales Manager.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years of sales experience in the food or a related industry, with a proven track record of meeting sales targets and driving business growth.
  • Preferably 5-10 years of technical sales experience in the flavor or food sector.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Sales, Marketing) with a strong understanding of technical or food science concepts. A degree in Food Science or a similar science-related discipline is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of customers and competitors in the U.S. market, including customer strategies, project priorities, launch processes, and how to effectively position the company's offerings.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at various organizational levels.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated and goal-driven, capable of working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (50% or more) within the assigned territory and across the U.S., depending on the location of the home office.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint. Familiarity with Sage-based or similar sales and R&D software is a plus.
