Senior Tax Accountant & Tax Specialist
Salary Range: $80,000-90,000
Secaucus, NJ
(Onsite for the first 3 months, then Hybrid)
The Senior Accountant and Tax specialist is part of a team responsible for managing accounting and financial reporting tasks, as well as ensuring tax compliance for the organization, operating both in the U.S. and in Canada.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
Prepaid expenses and deferred income/costs Accruals and provisions (bad debt, excess/obsolete inventory)
Tax Compliance Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with all sales tax requirements in the U.S. and in Canada, including state/province-specific sales tax laws, and filing timely returns. Oversee property tax compliance for real estate holdings in Florida, New York, and New Jersey, ensuring timely filings and accurate payments. Liaise with local authorities/brokers to resolve any property tax issues or discrepancies. Manage the renewal process for stores business licenses in USA and in Canada, in compliance with local jurisdictional requirements Coordinate the preparation and filing of corporate annual reports and returns to federal and state/provincial tax authorities. Ensure compliance with all corporate filing requirements, including necessary documentation. Oversee other local tax compliance, including business-related taxes at the city and county level, ensuring timely and accurate filings.

Senior Tax Accountant & Tax Specialist

The Senior Accountant and Tax specialist is part of a team responsible for managing accounting and financial reporting tasks, as well as ensuring tax compliance for the organization, operating both in the U.S. and in Canada.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Perform monthly financial closing entries, including:
- Perform reconciliations of suspense and other GL accounts
- Fixed assets management, ensuring proper recording of additions, disposals, and depreciation
- Manage lease accounting in compliance with IFRS 16, ensuring accurate recognition of lease liabilities and right-of-use assets
- Record and reconcile payroll-related journal entries, including month-end accruals
- Provide support in the recording and reconciliation of stores revenues and Credit card / cash reconciliation
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports for management and external auditors
- Support compliance with internal controls and accounting policies, aligned with IFRS
- Assist Accounting Manager to co-ordinate with external auditors, tax consultants, and other third-party service providers to ensure accounting and tax matters are handled efficiently and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (finance, HR, legal, etc.) to ensure seamless accounting processes
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives for accounting processes and systems, ensuring the organization stays up to date with changes in tax laws, accounting standards, and best practices.
Tax Compliance Responsibilities:
- Sales Tax Compliance (U.S. & Canada):
- Property Tax Compliance (FL, NY, NJ):
- Corporate services / Business licenses compliance:
- Management of Other Local Taxes:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent certification preferred)
- 5+ years of accounting and tax experience, preferably in retail industry
- knowledge of IFRS, fixed assets, accrual accounting, and provisions
- Experience handling multi-jurisdictional sales tax compliance (USA & Canada)
- Proficiency in major ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with global teams
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in a luxury retail or wholesale environment
- Understanding of IFRS accounting principles
- Experience in multinational companies with cross-border operations
