What You DoThe Senior Accountant has responsibility for Flamboyan's back-office financial functions. Under the supervision of the SMD, Finance and Operations, you will manage all day-to-day finance activities of a $7-12 million budget including accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly reconciliations, general ledger review. You will generate and present on financial reports, gather data and input for annual audits, and help manage our cash flow projections. You will maintain financial compliance of Flamboyan's funds and assets, including federal grants, to ensure that our team members are high-functioning and effective stewards of the organization's resources.

Finance and Accounting
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and federal and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for month, quarter, and year end reconciliation of all bank accounts, including investment accounts.
  • Support with and coordinate all audit activity and evaluate issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery, addressing concerns as necessary.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes of accounting and finance status.
  • Keep SMD, Finance and Operations, and senior leadership abreast of Flamboyan's financial status and ensure staff continuously understand how their work and use of resources impacts the financial sustainability of the organization.
  • Assist SMD in the annual budgeting and planning process; review budgets and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
  • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting, including restricted and unrestricted grants and federal grants; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
  • Support with management of organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the President, SMD and Operations Team; collaboratively assess the financial efficacy of program operations and strategize finance and administrative systems to support program operations.

Leadership and Compliance
  • Leverage strengths of the Finance and Operations Team, helping to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals, with a special focus on supporting the success of a diverse team.
  • Work closely with program leadership and their staffs, to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures, and to explore how the finance function can support program operations and potential equity dimensions of this work.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization.
  • Partner with the Senior Managing Director of Fiance and Operations, Senior Leadership Team, talent and operations staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience, non-profit accounting experience is a plus.
  • Experience with enterprise accounting software and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and other regulatory and financial standards and requirements.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Work RequirementsThis position is based out of Flamboyan's Washington, DC office in DuPont Circle. All candidates are required to live a commutable distance to our office at 1730 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. Flamboyan has a hybrid work schedule which is 4-days in the office and 1-day remote each week (Wednesday), with one fully remote week each quarter.

The position follows a 40-hour/week schedule and will occasionally require work outside of standard working hours to staff events and other events.

This position reports to the Senior Managing Director of Finance and Operations.

CompensationThe starting salary for this role is $93,547.
