What will you be doing?

ANBL is seeking a Senior Accountant (Gross Profit) to join our Finance team. As part of our Shared services, working with both ANBL and CannabisNB.

The Senior Accountant (Gross Profit) role encompasses comprehensive subject matter expertise of financial accounting and reporting specific to cash management, accounts receivable, inventory and gross profit results, including a thorough understanding of all transactions, associated business processes, applicable legislative and regulatory considerations, appropriate accounting treatments, and end-to-end flow of journal entries throughout the entire process cycle. The role is also expected to maintain a super-user level of knowledge and understanding of the associated financial systems functionality, configuration, integration points and business logic. The Senior Accountant (Gross Profit) is responsible for monthly analysis of financial performance and impact on goals set, and for providing timely business and customer support in all areas of accountability. The role is also responsible to ensure continued systems and process optimization, employee coaching and development, and demonstrated value to the business.

Key position Responsibilities:
  • Inventory (SME) - Maintain completeness of accuracy of inventory results and reporting ensuring adherence to IFRS standards. Investigate and understand inventory breakage and write-offs; analyze trends and offer insights.
  • Gross Profit (SME) - Maintain knowledge and understanding of all transactions impacting gross profit. Ensure completeness and accuracy of associated financial results and reporting, ensuring adherence to IFRS.
  • Team Leadership - Provide oversight of cash management, accounts receivable, and customs functions. Achieve optimal team performance by creating a culture of coaching through consistent feedback and mentoring; broaden thinking, identify strengths and development needs, clarify milestones or measures of success, and create accountability for achieving established goals; allocate tasks and workload among team members to ensure efficient operations; foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Financial Accounting - Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis to ensure financial transactions are complete, correct, and compliant with IFRS accounting standards, other applicable legislation, and internal policies/ charts of accounts.
  • Variance Analysis - Analyze month end financial results for assigned business partners and assess impacts to annual plans and strategies, including the identification of risks and opportunities, and recommendations for course corrections as required.
  • Budget & Projections - Support the planning process by working closely with business partners to ensure compliance to IFRS. Validate assumptions, analyze results, and provide recommendations on alignment to corporate goals, KPIs, and risks and opportunities.
  • Reporting - Prepare and review internal and external reports and requests for information. Develop, design, implement and manage dashboards and reporting tools to analyze and track results, and provide real-time insights into financial results.
  • Financial Systems Super-User - Maintain super-user knowledge of applicable financial systems to ensure optimized processes and efficiencies; troubleshoot and problem solve as required; recommend and implement solutions and best practices, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and relevant internal policies.
  • Compliance and Documentation - Ensure all policies, standards, and processes are compliant, accurate, and documented; review, analyze and action change to align with emerging standards and legislation changes to ensure appropriate and correct recognition.


What you need to be successful:
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a related accounting role
  • Ability to coach and develop others
  • Effective time management, organizational, and prioritization skills
  • Creative problem solver with critical thinking skills; continuous improvement mindset
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail; strong writing skills
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate effectively to non-financial stakeholders
  • Customer service focus
  • Confidentiality and discretion


It would be fantastic if you also had:
  • Experience working under IFRS legislation
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Dynamics 365


Language competencies
  • Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset, but not required


Work location:
  • The successful candidate will have the option to work onsite at ANBL's Retail Operations Centre (ROC) in Fredericton, New Brunswick, or work on a hybrid basis dividing their time between home and ROC.
