Summary
The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Accounting Supervisor and will be an integral member of the Site Accounting team responsible for the day-to-day accounting of mine operations and site related activities. Your primary responsibility will be to support the efficient and accurate financial operations for the site, manage concentrate sales and accounting for revenue, corporate reporting, journal entries, reconciliation, and foreign exchange management.

Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.0 million ounces of silver in 2024 as the mine ramps up production.
The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here's what you can expect in this role:
- Facilitate and enhance financial and accounting operations for the site to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements for both internal and external reporting.
- Manage day to day concentrate sales and record month end entries for revenue accounting.
- Collaborate as required in meeting corporate external financial reporting and audit obligations.
- Prepare, manage, and reconcile various Site Working Papers, and post relevant journal entries as necessary.
- Assist in the month-end process by handling accruals and the reconciliation of intercompany accounts.
- Manage the revaluation of USD-denominated accounts and prepare foreign exchange-related journal entries.
- Be responsible for the monthly reconciliation of bank statements and the accruals and reconciliation of term deposits.
- Play a pivotal role in the transition to a new ERP system.
- Review entries related to accounts payable invoices and payments.
- Perform a monthly review of consolidated cash balances and provide relevant reports.
- Offer support in the monthly review of site cost reports and capital projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Initiate and participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing process efficiency information quality, and reporting standards.
- Undertake additional responsibilities and administrative tasks as and when required.
Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA) an asset.
- 5+ years accounting experience.
- Experience in mining industry an asset.
- Knowledge if IFRS/US GAAP and SOX Controls.
- Knowledge of Sage 300 an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with superior attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines on multiple tasks and projects.
- Possess strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook); advanced Excel skills considered an asset.
- Resourceful, enthusiastic, and not afraid to bring new ideas to the table.
