Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Manager to oversee the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial data across the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading month-end close processes, managing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with GAAP standards. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage and mentor a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Management: Oversee and manage the general ledger, including the preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and other transactions to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Month-End Close: Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring all entries are completed on time, accounts are reconciled, and reports are accurate.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders, adhering to GAAP standards and company policies.
- Account Reconciliations: Perform and oversee detailed balance sheet and bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies to maintain data integrity.
- Compliance and Audit Support: Ensure all accounting practices comply with GAAP and company policies. Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements within the accounting department to enhance efficiency and accuracy in general ledger activities.
- Internal Controls: Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting, working closely with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks and improve processes.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and development to ensure high performance and growth.
- Technical Accounting Support: Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, new accounting standards, and ad hoc projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred, but not required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with a focus on general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or managerial role is required.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience in financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAGE Intacct, SAGE 300, Restaurant 365, Compeat, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in Restaurant or a similar industry with complex accounting needs.
- Knowledge of internal controls frameworks (e.g., SOX) and experience implementing controls.
- Ability to adapt to changing regulations and business needs and to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
