Position Description
Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
City Light's Accounting Division is hiring a Senior Accountant. This is a key position, playing a significant role in accomplishing the mission of the general accounting team to deliver accurate and timely reporting. Under limited supervision, the Senior Accountant performs complex professional accounting work in the maintenance, control, analysis and development of financial records, reports and systems. Maintains accounting records in the general ledger and other financial systems, prepares and analyzes accounting/financial and investment data and reports, performs financial forecasts and research and interprets accounting standards and regulations. This position reports to the General Accounting Manager.

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field (requires satisfactory completion of at least 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credit units in accounting with no substitution allowed) plus three years professional experience in general or governmental accounting (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

- Prepare and review all wholesale power transactions and ensure proper FERC accounting
- Lead wholesale power billing function performed in General Accounting
- Perform annual GASB 53 review and documentation to determine if SCL continues to qualify for the normal purchases and normal sales exemption
- Prepare and review monthly/quarterly/annual reconciliations
- Prepare and update procedures, processes, and accounting policies for wholesale power
- Prepare and coordinate monthly variance analysis
- Lead and maintain quarterly updates of internal control matrices
Qualifications

- Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, practices and methods in accordance with GAAP, GASB, and FASB; applicable Federal, State and City laws, rules, regulations and departmental procedures and guidelines
- Professional judgment in providing consultation and recommendations to management to assist in making sound business decisions
- Proven ability to meet deadlines, strong time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, delegate and work cooperatively with others
- Strong communication skills and attention to details
- Quick learner
- Advanced Excel user
