Scope of the position
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Planning & Decision Support, the incumbent will contribute to the team through thoughtful analysis and reporting experience to ensure the success of departmental goals and objectives. This analyst will support Chartwell's operational business decision making team by providing accurate and timely reporting and analysis support related to Chartwell's Canadian retirement communities. In addition, this role will assist in the development and subsequent monitoring of operational performance metrics.
Key Activities Reporting & Analysis:
  • Key member of Strategic Planning & Decision Support team contributing to the overall support of our Operations, Finance, Marketing, Sales, Real Estate and Development departments.
  • Support the overall business plan of the Strategic Planning & Decision Support team by understanding and being able to execute on the deliverables of other Analyst roles.
  • Weekly, monthly, quarterly internal Operational financial reporting using various tools (Excel, Word, B.I., Quick view, Smartview).
  • Prepare and analyze sales and occupancy projections and quarterly average occupancy reporting.
  • Prepare ad hoc and what-if analysis as required.
  • Prepare financial and business related analyses and research as directed.
  • Assist with the preparation of reporting for joint venture partners with respect to operations, sales and marketing.
  • Adhere to corporate reporting policies, guidelines and timetables.
  • Subject matter expert (SME) for leveraging Smartview Analysis for our reporting purpose.
  • Data consolidation and validation.
  • Tracking of process improvements, and documentation of processes.
  • Collaborate with external partners to assist with data collection and reporting when necessary.
  • Provide support to the development team for OneStream, Power BI, Snowflake, Hyperion and Essbase applications and projects, as required.
  • Other duties as required.
Operational Strategy Support:
  • Support strategic planning process by providing analysis of strategic initiatives to operational committees, and assist with presentation requirements.
  • Actively contribute to strategic progression of the Canadian operations departments through involvement with and support of the operations management committees.
    • Review and analyze invoices for cost savings,
    • Review and analyze revenue,
    • Staffing charts, comparisons and potential saving/expense calculations.
  • Provide support to Platform Leads, Directors of Operations and National Directors as required.
  • Assist with General Manager or Departmental Manager enquiries as required and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare ad hoc and what-if analysis as required.
  • Support, analyze and monitor monthly property operating results as part of Chartwell's operational accountability tool process.

Budgeting & Forecasting:
  • Participate in, and support the annual corporate general & administration budget process.
  • Participate in, and support the annual operational property NOI and capital budget process.
  • Assist budget working group activities to develop agreed upon timelines and ensure milestones are achieved.
  • Consolidate divisional and functional budgets and forecasts and report to leadership on key performance indicators.
  • Lead support for the development of accurate budgets and ensure Chartwell's operational accountability process through:
    • Lead budget working groups,
    • Lead the preparation of budget data in our Hyperion Planning application, ensuring data is prepared for annual budget process,
    • Review and analyze budgets for completeness and reasonability, explaining material variances, and
    • Preparation of review material presented to senior management and / or owners.
Qualifications
Experience & Education :
  • Post-secondary education with preference to CFA, CMA, CGA, CA designations.
  • IT background and/or experience an asset.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial reporting, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting or analysis capacity, including financial analysis modeling experience.
  • Preference for bilingual (French/English) applicants.
  • Experience in seniors housing, healthcare or real estate sector preferred.
  • Experience with OneStream, Oracle Hyperion HFM, Essbase and Planning, Power BI or Snowflake preferred.
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager, Fixed Asset and Payscan an asset.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools (asset).
  • Knowledge of operational and/or financial accounting an asset

Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven analytical skills with a natural interest toward analytical activities and investigation.
  • Aptitude toward systems and process improvements and re-engineering.
  • Process improvement and/or automation experience in the planning and analysis area is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and the ability to present ideas in a user friendly format.
  • Self-motivated and directed, with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks; seeks help when needed.
  • Ability to effectively transfer knowledge.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel is highly preferred.
  • Must have the ability to be persuasive, encouraging, influential and able to motivate others. This position requires someone that is able to work with various levels of business and technical staff.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks; seeks help when needed
  • Ability to manage and validate large amounts of data, and translate this data into relevant business information.
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly and to multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Easily adapts to changes, delays, or unexpected events in the work environment.
  • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities.

Special Requirements:
  • Flexibility in work hours will be required during peak periods, which may be somewhat unpredictable due to the nature of the team's role
