Academic Affairs - College of Medicine
Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction and Leadership: Collaborate with the College Dean to lead and manage the strategic direction of both Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, institutional goals, and FSU College of Medicine's (COM's) mission. Serves as the College's Chief Academic Officer.
- Team Management and Supervision: Directly supervise, advise, and evaluate a leadership team comprised of the Office of Medical Education, Clinical Learning Center, Simulation Center, Graduate Medical Education, Faculty Relations, Continuous Quality Improvement, Medical Library and Student Affairs. Foster a learning environment built on academic excellence, professionalism, and teamwork, supporting successful outcomes for learners along the UME-GME continuum.
- Policy and Accreditation Oversight: Facilitate the development of policies and procedures, lead accreditation efforts, and address faculty affairs concerns as needed to ensure consistent program quality.
- Regional Campus and Residency Support: Support the growth and development of medical education programs across regional campuses and residencies. Serve on Regional Campus Community Boards and work with clinical partners to enhance educational delivery and consistency.
- Collaboration with Other Health Professions Programs at COM and FSU: Strengthen collaboration between the UME, GME, Physician Assistant and PhD programs at COM with other academic programs at FSU to improve health-related interprofessional collaborative education.
- Committee Engagement: Actively participate in and contribute to key institutional committees, including the Executive Committee, Curriculum Committees, Graduate Medical Education Committee, Student Evaluation and Promotion Committee, Campus Deans' Planning Committee, Dean's Group and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Committee.
- Faculty Affairs and Curriculum Improvement: Ensure the effectiveness of faculty development programs, faculty support and faculty participation in educational activities.
- Accreditation Compliance: Ensure institutional and programmatic accreditation compliance for both UME and GME programs while supporting the expansion of existing programs and the development of new initiatives.
- Financial Oversight: Oversee budgeting and financial responsibilities for the Medical Education Program's operations, ensuring financial alignment with strategic goals and priorities.
- Innovation and Quality Improvement: Champion the continuous development and enhancement of medical education programs, ensuring they remain innovative and meet evolving educational needs while maintaining full accreditation.
Qualifications
Medical Degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced academic credentials (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D.) are a plus.
- A proven track record of successful leadership in medical education, with significant experience in academic administration, program development, and implementation.
- Extensive expertise in accreditation standards, curriculum development, faculty affairs, and institutional governance within a medical education environment.
- Exceptional strategic leadership capabilities, coupled with outstanding communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across a variety of stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff, and external partners.
- Extensive experience managing and enhancing medical education programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with a focus on innovative and evidence-based practices.
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with university leadership, faculty, and external organizations to drive academic excellence, strengthen educational outcomes, and promote the college's mission and vision.
