Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- The Senior Attorney is primarily responsible for providing legal and regulatory services to the Company related to regulatory actions necessary for implementing its clean energy commitment, including representing the Company in matters before state and federal regulators, and providing advice and legal counsel to the Companys operating groups.

- Will render legal advice and assist in the representation of the Company in federal and state administrative proceedings, including rate cases, -non-rate proceedings, rulemakings, and related judicial appeals.
- Will be able to assist in the preparation of a variety of legal and regulatory filings including tariff, rate filings and non-rate filings.
- Will assist in the preparation of briefs, comments, and other submissions in contested proceedings at federal and state regulatory agencies and in federal court.
- Will perform legal research and write legal memoranda.
- Will provide any other legal service related to Company operations.
- Must perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Juris Doctorate Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited Law School Required.
- Licensed to practice law. If not a member of the New York State Bar, must be an active member of the bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and have the ability to register as a New York in-house counsel Required
- Minimum of six years of experience working on renewable energy issues either working: 1 ) as a lawyer for a law firm, utility or energy company, state or federal regulatory utility commission; 2) in a regulatory or legislative affairs position at a utility or energy company; 3) in the legislative branch of a state government or the federal government; or3)representing a utility or similar energy company in a regulatory or legislative affairs position before a state or federal agency that regulates the development, sale, transmission or distribution of energy. Will consider a mix of the above experience to meet the required six years experience Required
- Ability to organize and coordinate projects effectively and efficiently. Required
- Flexibility and ability to handle busy work environment Required
- Must excel at written and oral communication skills, negotiation skills, presentation skills and interpersonal skills, and must be able to adopt a customer service mentality Required
- Experience providing federal or state legal and regulatory services as part of a public utility, law firm, or regulatory agency Preferred
- Knowledge of federal or state electric or gas regulation, laws, and policies Preferred
- Experience in preparing comments and other submissions at federal or state regulatory agencies or before state or federal governments Preferred
- Driver's License Required
- Sit or stand to answer a phone for the duration of the workday
- Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
- Stand to use/operate office equipment for the duration of the workday
- Ability to read small print and symbols
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel within the Companys service territory and to Washington, D.C., Albany, N.Y., Trenton, N.J., and Newark, N.J., as needed.
