Description:
Basic Purpose of the Position
Responsible for the design and implementation of complex electrical and automation systems including PLC programming, data acquisition, HMI development, system integration, risk analysis, and technical data packages including schematics and associated documents and parts lists. Often assume project lead role with project management responsibilities over other engineers and design/drafting support personnel.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Lead the design and development of electrical control systems for production equipment
Analize production requirements to specify an optimal controls solution
Prepare scope of work, select components and establish project budgets
Create detailed documentation to support the system lifecycle, operations, maintenance and repair
Develop and implement required PLC or computer-based programs for machine control and process automation
Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to efficiently complete program objectives
Ensure compliance with safety standards and industrial codes both in the US and globally
Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve controls issues on the production floor
Provide technical support for maintenance technicians and production personnel
Remain current on the state-of-the-art in automation technologies, industrial machine control components and industry best practices
Supervise in-house panel shop to UL 508A standard
Mentor controls group personnel on application of control components and software development
Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or equivalent, master's degree is a plus
8 years' experience in complex industrial equipment controls design and implementation in a manufacturing-based company
Extensive experience in PLC programming (e.g., Allen Bradley) and proficiency in HMI development tools
Expertise in control system architecture and documentation
Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet, Profibus, Modbus)
Understanding of the application of EN/ISO 12100, Safety of Machinery, and ANSI B11, Safety of Machinery, as it applies to industrial control equipment
Familiarity with the application of NFPA 70 National Electric Code and NFPA 70G Electrical Safety
Prior work experience in a manufacturing-based company
Strong troubleshooting, analytical and critical thinking skills
Must have a valid US passport or the ability to get one
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
In-person manufacturing environment with both shop and office presence
Intermittent standing, squatting, bending, pulling, and lifting throughout the workday
Infrequent lifting of 50 lbs. or less
Wear proper PPE when required and obey all Safety regulations
Standard working hours are 8:30 - 5:00, Mon - Fri
Occasional Domestic and International travel will be required
