UPMC Procirca is looking for a full time Sr. Biomedical Engineer to join their dedicated team.
This position was designed to provide support and leadership in all clinical or commercial activities of Vital Engineering. These tasks include, but are not limited to: clinical management of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) recipients within UPMC Health System (UPMC) and at contracted health centers outside UPMC; training of medical staff in the use of MCS devices at UPMC and contracted centers outside UPMC; clinical management and training support on behalf of MCS device manufacturers who have Vital Engineering contracts. In addition, incumbent will perform analogous tasks on other artificial organ technology and clinical biomedical equipment at UPMC and contracted sites nationally or internationally. This includes bio-artificial liver, artificial lung, surgical robotics, and other innovative medical technology. Incumbent will also have a significant role in advancing Vital Engineering business and scope of work. In addition to clinical expertise, engineers will be required to participate in a 24 hour call rotation, and understand design and development of innovative cardiac and organ support technologies.
This role will work primarily at Presbyterian and Children's Hospital, with occasional support at other locations (50% travel). Shifts will primarily daylight shifts, with approximately 1 week of "on-call" per month, that would include occasional evenings, nights and weekends.

Qualifications:
- Must have a Ph.D. or Master's in Chemical, Biomedical or other related Engineering. OR
- Actively enrolled in a Masters or PHD program with a completion within three (3) years of transfer or hire. Two (2) years' experience with clinical management of MCS devices and scientific research. OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related Science and five (5) years' experience with clinical management of MCS devices and scientific research.
- Incumbent must possess the ability to work independently in a variety of settings including the operating room, catheterization lab, intensive care unit, or research facility. Incumbent must have experience teaching, and own excellent communication skills, and be willing to travel up to 50% of time on short notice for emergency clinical support needs.
- Furthermore, exposure to clinical trials is a must. Distinct Computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel, Exchange, Word Prefect, Power Point and Internet computer software applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well, both orally and in written form.
- May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with the medications is allowed.
