Arcaea is seeking an experienced DSP Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in developing our ingredient toolset for the beauty and personal care industry. As a member of the Arcaea team, you will be responsible for leading Arcaea's downstream process development and scaling up activities.

Pay Range
$140,000-$160,000 USD

Arcaea is seeking an experienced DSP Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in developing our ingredient toolset for the beauty and personal care industry. As a member of the Arcaea team, you will be responsible for leading Arcaea's downstream process development and scaling up activities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of downstream processes for the purification of bioactive ingredients
- Apply your proficiency in a diverse range of downstream unit operations, such as chromatography (affinity, ion exchange, HIC, SEC, etc.), membrane separation processes (depth filtration, ultrafiltration/diafiltration, tangential flow filtration, and sterile filtration), centrifugation, lyophilization, spray drying and other relevant techniques.
- Conduct hands on troubleshooting, process feasibility and process optimization experiments in relation to downstream purification and recovery processes
- Build a science-based understanding of processes to define critical process parameters and establish acceptance criteria
- Application of statistical data analysis in development, including design of experiments (DoE), multivariate analysis.
- Assist with cost modeling analyses as needed.
- Participate in tech-transfer activities with CDMO and CMOs and build strong relationships with collaborating companies.
- Showcase your proven ability to scale up bioprocesses from laboratory-scale to pilot-scale and eventually to full-scale production.
- Maintain meticulous documentation of experimental procedures, results, and process parameters.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory guidelines governing the production of cosmetic ingredients.
- Develop technical insights based on research and scientific literature
- Stay informed about the latest advancements in downstream processing technologies, assessing their applicability to elevate our processes.
- Communicate technical information to internal teams and/or external parties in the form of oral and written correspondence, presentations, and reports
- Work effectively and efficiently on a tight deadline without drama or ego
WHAT WE SEEK:
- MS/PhD in chemical engineering, life sciences, biotechnology, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in downstream processing, with a variety of unit operations
- Successful track record of developing and scaling up industrial biotech DSP processes.
- Proven ability to manage projects
- Experience with tech transfer to CDMO/CMOs.
- Proficiency in process simulation and modeling tools is advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Highly independent with the ability to work with cross functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Delivering on projects, on time.
- Effective communicator, can explain complex science in layman terms.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Startup experience preferred
