At Caterpillar, we rely on insightful data to guide our strategy and solutions. We're seeking an experienced Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst to deliver insights daily. The ideal candidate will have mathematical and statistical expertise, along with natural curiosity and a creative mind. While mining, interpreting, and cleaning our data, this person will be relied on to ask questions, connect the dots, and uncover hidden opportunities for realizing the data's full potential. As part of the Strategy team the data specialist will "slice and dice" data using various methods and create new visions for the future. What You Will Do

• Serve as BI Analyst to identify relevant data sources and sets to mine for business needs, and collect large structured and unstructured datasets and variables
• Research and devise innovative statistical models for data analysis always keeping an eye on the business aspect and real-world implications
• Analyze data for trends and patterns, and interpret data work and closely with the cross functional teams in developing insights
• Develop recommendations and communicate findings to senior leaders
• Enable smarter business decisions by using analytics for meaningful insights
• Keep current with technical and industry developments

What You Have (Core Skills)

• Experience with SQL for data gathering, and programming languages e.g. Python for analytics
• Navigating multiple disparate data platforms including Snowflake AWS
• Proficiency with data mining and statistical analysis and predictive modeling
• Communicating Complex Concepts: Ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience
• Cloud Computing: Knowledge of the concepts, technologies and services of cloud computing; ability to design, deploy and implement cloud computing solutions in various business environment
• Database Design (Physical): Knowledge of database systems; ability to establish a data model for designing an organization's database that runs effectively and efficiently for better business outcome
• ETL Process: Knowledge of the extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) process; ability to develop a database through the ETL process
• Modeling: Data, Process, Events, Objects: Knowledge of data, process and events; ability to use tools and techniques for analyzing and documenting logical relationships among data, processes or events

Top Candidates Will Also Have

• Experience with data visualization tools Tableau and Power BI
• Experience with analytical tools, Alteryx / Rapid Miner or willingness to learn
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, research-oriented group that has several concurrent projects
• Bachelor's degree in statistics, applied mathematics, or related discipline, master's degree in applied mathematics or related
• Progressive work experience in data science

Additional Information:

• Work location: Cary, NC
• Domestic travel up to 25% & minimal international travel may be required
• Domestic relocation assistance is offered for this position

• Caterpillar requires 5 days per week in office (M-F)

Summary Pay Range:
$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
