The Senior Manager role is a position within the Research and Development (R&D) Department. The Senior Manager oversee the progression of projects from the start of the project to the end of manufacturing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for designing and creating new formulations by utilizing in-depth knowledge of chemical ingredients and processes that meet the desired technical and aesthetic attributes specified by the customers on product development request form.
  • Conduct experiments and prepare lab batches of formulas needed for submitting samples for customer evaluation and feedback.
  • Lead the R&D team of multiple formulation chemist, coach and guide them while managing all the technical aspects of new formulation products.
  • Ensure that the developed formula aligns with product brief and falls within required cost targets specified by the customer.
  • Review new Product Development Request and collaborate with several departments and team members in submitting projects/products on time to customer.
  • Communicate and present project updates and technical information within cross-functional external and internal team.
  • Meet with raw material vendors to learn more about new technologies and new raw material that can be utilized to create as well as improve ongoing projects while also innovating on the technology offerings.
  • Continuously enhance formulation knowledge and skills by attending industry trade shows, seminars, and coaching junior chemists.
  • Develop detailed lab scale process for successful scale up batch which includes order of addition, critical raw materials and processing parameters along with final product specifications.
  • Collaborate with process engineering team to troubleshoot any product scale up issues and bring new solution to solve the anomalies.
  • Work closely with junior chemists and technicians to research, coordinate and collaborate on projects leading to well-planned and executed bench work for successful sample submission.
  • Organization of daily tasks and deliverables for chemists.
  • Evaluate formula design and performance of competitive products.
  • Interpret product stability and preservative efficacy test findings and recommend action steps.
  • Maintain a well-organized laboratory notebook for documenting formulation work, stability assessment and experiment findings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Position requires experience in the following:
  • Ideally a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, or related field and five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate relevant experience.
  • Formulating personal care products with three years of experience in skin care and hair care
  • Utilizing the principles of organic chemistry, physical chemistry, cosmetic chemistry which includes skin and hair processing helps to understand how ingredients interact with each other and create stable formulations as it is quantified by looking at the number of different formulations that are launched annually;
  • Understanding regulatory requirements of US, EU and China to create globally compliant formulations;
  • Utilizing Over the Counter (OTC) experience including knowledge of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) monograph as well as global rules and regulations with respect to artwork and labeling;
  • Utilizing bulk manufacturing, filling, packing and kettle configuration knowledge to develop manufacturing process from scale up to commercial size with consistent quality;
  • Understanding of FDA regulations and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements to create OTC formulations as it is quantified by seeing the number of OTC formulations produced and registered with the FDA annually; and
  • Utilizing expert knowledge of Chemistry and Polymer Science to interact efficiently with suppliers around the globe and select ingredients that are stable, efficacious, natural, and meet the customers cost.
