Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Claims Examiner in our Atlanta, New York, Chicago, or Boston office. The Senior Claims Examiner will independently handle a pending of high severity large account claims underwritten out of the Financial Institutions and Commercial (i.e., Public Company) teams, focusing mainly on Financial Institutions, Errors & Omissions, Directors & Officers, Fiduciary, and Fidelity/Crime.
Candidates must have strong technical and analytic skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. This role will have a high level of interaction with customers, brokers, outside counsel, mediators, underwriters, and senior management.

The base salary range for this position is from $120,000 - $140,000 along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate's actual salary is commensurate with experience as determined by their relevant skills and experience. Job Opportunity:

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Proactively handle claims from first notice of loss through ultimate resolution, working with and advising internal partners on claims, developing a proactive plan of action for ultimate resolution, obtaining budgets and meeting with clients, counsel and brokers and reviewing and providing advice on policy wordings and risk selection.
- Independently evaluate information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of exposure to the insured and the company, with limited assistance from outside counsel.
- Collaborate with defense counsel on strategy and resolution, and effectively participate in mediations on complex claims in the negotiation of settlements.
- Provide outstanding customer service and technical expertise by working with insureds, brokers, and underwriters in the handling and adjudication of claims.
- Analyze and draft coverage letters as appropriate and communicate complex coverage positions effectively.
- Draft reports, set reserves within the authority, and make claim recommendations concerning reserve changes.
- Travel to conferences, mediations, and client meetings as necessary.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- JD required.
- 5+ years of experience, with a minimum of three years of experience handling insurance claims, defense, and/or coverage litigation or other related experience required.
- Professional/Management liability claims or insurance defense experience at an insurance carrier or law firm preferred.
- Background in D&O and Financial Institutions helpful.
- Excellent interpersonal, communications and negotiation skills required.
- Must have attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, highly collaborative team environment.
