As a Senior Commercial Counsel for Verily, you will play a pivotal role in driving strategic commercial transactions and shaping the future of our legal function. You will partner directly with a team of experts from the fields of biology, engineering, computer science, health economics, and more on complex commercial transactions that support groundbreaking projects. This role demands a seasoned legal professional with a strategic mindset, leadership potential, and the ability to navigate complex legal issues in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $216,000 - $286,000 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This role demands a seasoned legal professional with a strategic mindset, leadership potential, and the ability to navigate complex legal issues in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal counsel to senior leadership on complex deal structures.
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of high-value agreements.
- Develop and implement legal strategies that support commercial objectives and drive business growth.
- Mentor and guide junior legal team members.
- Provide expert advice on regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and data privacy.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- JD degree or equivalent education.
- Licensed to practice law in a US jurisdiction.
- 8+ years of experience in tech transactions, particularly with SaaS agreements.
- Significant focus on the life sciences or health tech sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in leading complex negotiations and structuring high-value deals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, supporting life sciences transactions.
- Familiarity with joint venture deal structures in the life sciences industry.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring legal professionals.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
